Sinai Vessel Shares Laughing Single

This summer’s all about sharing time with friends, relaxing in lawn chairs with great tunes pumping from the stereo, and your playlist should include this new track from Asheville’s Sinai Vessel. When listening through this single, you’ll be drawn to Caleb Cordes voice, like a firefly to the light, pulling you in with its intimacy; I think of John K. Samson or Davey von Bohlen, particularly when the high notes are hit. The song snakes its way around Cordes, with accompaniment lifting the tune’s spirit, though careful to not overshadow his voice; that guitar sliding in the distance is the perfect moment to rock back in your chair and gaze into the Summer night. The band release their new record, I Sing, on July 26th via Keeled Scales, followed by a huge US tour in August/September.

Day & Dream Share Spooky 2

Wanted to ease you into your Tuesday morning with something that feels like waking up out of a deep slumber, which is where we find Day & Dream on their latest single. The ambient wash blankets the tune with the disorienting textures of dream pop, but its the movement beneath in the mix that really has me enjoying myself. Subtle drum rolls fill in the empty space as ethereal vocals spread out across the song’s vast landscape they’ve created. And, if you let the song drift with you, there’s this bombastic exit as the song draws near, allowing the band to illustrate their musicianship as they top of the tune with a little punch.

Secret Shame Share New Single Hide

I’ve been pulling for Secret Shame to get some new music out there, as they definitely add a layer of darkness to the sort of dream pop/shoegaze genre. Luckily, we’ve got that tune for you today, and it lives up to my expectations, and perhaps pushes the band into some new territory. They still seem to be living in that sort of gothic cavern, toying between post punk and pop tendencies; you’ll hear dancing guitar notes stabbing in and out between Lena’s moving vocal performance. It doesn’t feel as on the button for any genre, which is why I’m drawn to it, loving that you can’t just put this in a perfectly defined box as the band continue to explore their sound.

Secret Shame Share Victoria Single

We raved about Secret Shame when they dropped their Dissolve/Pure 7″, and now the band have jumped back in with this heavy bit of dark rock n’ roll. The band were approached by filmmaker Jamieson Ridenhour to write a tune for his new film, Bloodbath-Victoria’s Secret, which seems to have kickstarted the songwriting process…as we hear this track is also leading towards a new LP for next year. The riffs, as you’d expect for a horror film, are dark and edgy, though that shouldn’t surprise any fans of the band. I love how they’re still making this sound their own, turning in some light melodic moments in the chorus that keep me coming back to enjoy this Asheville act. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more on the new LP!

Enjoy This New Strange Halos Track

As the clock continues to tick and the weekend relief draws ever near, take a second to enjoy this new song called “Mistakes Were Made” from Asheville based band Strange Halos. Personally I think it should be the perfect song to match this dreary weather and foggy feeling. To me it sort of sounds like the psych-pop vie of a band like Portugal. The Man but with these super catchy and infectious elements of folk music. The blending of genres seems to work perfectly together and I hope you do enjoy the track and a dry weekend. Party on.

More From Secret Shame

After a few stellar songs coming my way, I am fully on board with the hype train behind Asheville based group Secret Shame. For me it’s been a welcome change from a lot of the garage rock style I post to more of a dark pop, gothic style. The band’s latest, entitled “Gift” can be found streaming below. It features the same dark, almost new wave sound with some dashes of the macabre.

Secret Shame will release new album Dark Synthetics on September 6th. Pre-order is live now.

Dark Post-Punk From Secret Shame

Having posted mostly rock n roll songs over the last couple of weeks, I felt the need to post something a little different today. My new Asheville friends Secret Shame have offered up this banging new track called “Calm” to fulfill my left of center desires. It’s a darker, post-punk themed track with haunting vocals and a truly slamming bass line. To me it’s sort of like a darker version of Beach House or a more accessible version of Chelsea Wolfe.

This track appears on Secret Shame’s new LP Dark Synthetics due out on September 6th. Pre-order here.

Slick New Single From Aunt Sis

Man it’s been right around 3 years since we’ve heard anything from Asheville, NC based indie rockers Aunt Sis. After the long delay, you can imagine my excitement to hear from them again. Breaking back on the scene today, the band offer up this delightful new single “Fastest Animal”. The track begins as a bright bit of instrumental guitars full of light, but then slows down a bit before building into a fast and furious finish with yearning vocals to boot. It’s a welcome return from a band we were certainly missing.

Contemplative Tune From RBTS WIN

RBTS_Promo_1aUSE

Sometimes when you maintain a music blog for years, you get a little inundated with the same old genres and musical styles in the indie scene today.  I’m even guilty of often going along with it and pigeonholing myself into specific genres that I like while flat out ignoring the sounds I usually don’t find interesting.  It’s not what we are supposed to do as music journalists right?  Today I broke my trend, giving this song called “Death Magic” a chance, and I’m really glad that I did.  Coming to us from Asheville, NC based pop hit makers RBTS WIN, one can find a lot to like in the simplicity of what’s going on here. What starts as a synth laden pop number with head nodding beats, evolves into this creative R&B tune sure to be worthy of repeat listens.  Something about this song is really doing it for me today.
