Last Week’s Jams, Today (8.1 – 8.5)

Back to the grind! I’m back at work, getting read to teach the kids and what not! But, looking back at last week, we covered a lot of rad territory I think that’s worthy of you easing into your work week, or just your day. I was stoked to hear Emma Kupa popping up on the latest track from Let’s Whisper, a band she’s joined recently. RayRay dropped new tunes from Sunfruits and Pale Blue Eyes, as well as threw some love towards the new Mall Walker EP. I know there was a lot of love and buzz on the new Peel Dream Magazine and Winter tunes, but personally, the track I couldn’t stop playing was the Enola jam inclued. Anyways, enjoy.

Austin Leonard Jones Shares Demon Sands, Drops Dead Calm

The latest album from Austin Leonard Jones very much feels like a Texas affair, from production duties helmed by Jesse Woods to Shane Renfro and others aiding in the recording. But, the album, itself feels like a Texas album. Take this two little ditty, for instance: it feels like you’re stepping out onto the dusty dancefloor with your partner nestled on your shoulder, ready for that slow jam that closes out the night. The twang, the longing are omnipresent here, but really, there are these slight little vocal moments throughout that warm me, like the slight voice rise at 1:07; it’s subtle, but the more you listen, the more you’re won over. If you dig it, then be sure to check out Dead Calm, the recent record out now courtesy of Perpetual Doom.

ATX Spotlight: Sleep Good/Austin Leonard Jones

a2921849332_16We’ve always been a fan of Will Patterson’s work and his time with Sleep Good has been no different over the last several years.  Today we are being treated to a new split EP featuring two new songs from Will & co. and two songs from fellow Austin songwriter Austin Leonard Jones.  Your Sleep Good songs on the split of course feature some great shoe gaze style pop music with a little bit of psych underlying everything.  Songs from ALJ are certainly in the singer songwriter vain, but with a little bit of quirkiness to provide some nice pop elements.

Stream the entire new split bellow and of course throw the guys a few dollars on bandcamp if you dig.
