Bloodhounds On My Trail Offer New Tune

bloodhoundsPlease don’t think that the only thing going on in Melbourne is guitar pop, and if you disagree, then just listen to the newest Bloodhounds On My Trail tune. It’s a sweeping piece of darkened rock n’ roll, balancing crisp guitar tones with the shimmery sort that collide in a wall of atmospherics. Bass grooves are heavy, almost thundering…all contrasted by a semi-croon, softening the song’s stance. It’s a promising number that will actually be handled by Texas based Moon Sounds Records for distribution on September 16th.

Pleased to Meet You: Tyrannamen

tyrannWell, I’m pleased to meet Tyrannamen, though participating members of Twerps and Whipper mean I’ve likely already met the band in some form…not to mention their initial release picked up some minimal traction Stateside. That being said, the group is getting a worldwide reissue of their self-titled album via Static Shock Records. If you haven’t heard of the group before, this is a perfect introduction, offering up a ramshackle of hook-laden rock n’ roll; it’s got rough edges and pop sensibility, with a brevity that begs listeners to come back and listen time and time again. Not unlike fellow countrymen, Royal Headache, you can hear bits of soul/R&B blaring through your speakers, waiting to make you boogie down with your besties. Look for the album on September 23rd.

Trippy New Video From Flyying Colours

unnamed (4)Australian based psych rockers Flyying Colours just dropped this new video and single this morning and I had to share the goodness with you. This one isof course a psych rock song equal to tout itself as one of the best of the current indie psych rock craze. On top of that though, the band offers a little bit of straight up hard rock here too as the verses drop into the heavy chorus. Rock on Wayne.

Flyying Colours will see the release of their debut LP Mindfullness on September 23rd via Club AC30.

Brand New Music from Scott & Charlene’s Wedding

scottandcharleneTime for your weekly Australia feel, and I couldn’t think of a better way to dip my toes into Oceania than to turn up this rad new track from Scott & Charlene’s Wedding. While it definitely wears the influence of the current Aussie guitar scene, my ears hear it throwing things all the way back to late 80s college rock; I can almost hear Wire in the way the vocals are delivered too, emphatically shouted at various syllables. This tune will appear on their brand new album, Mid Thirties Single Scene, which is coming out on September 9th via Fire Records.

Slow Burner from Fire to the Stars

fireIn yet other Australian news, Fire to the Stars have just signed up with Seahorse Records to release their eponymous debut. This track is a brooding number, slowly building the song’s structure via the voice. It’s interesting, as the song begins with the purity of that vocal, pushing ahead slowly, building the wall of sound behind. Eventually, the noise breaks through, but I like that it’s restrained; it’s not too distorted or atmospheric, but almost pretty, if that makes sense. You’ll have to take a listen on your own in order to get into it, then look for the album for your own personal collection.

New Music from the Ocean Party

oceanpartyLast year we released Light Weight on our ATH Records label, but the boys in Ocean Partynever stop writing great songs, and they’re already back with another album for Spunk Records. It’s a spirited number, further displaying the band’s growth; they no longer sound like just another bunch spewing the dole wave gospel, but rather a fully formed collective of great pop songwriters. Maturity might be the best word, but no one’s worn it better than these lads. Oh, and they kicked out a great video to go with the song that you can check out over HERE. Restless will come your way later on in this year, with a US tour scheduled for early 2017.

Bright Pop From Chook Race

unnamedMan it seems like Trouble in Mind Records continues to find bands none of us have heard of and expose their music to the world. Melbourne based groupChookRace is yet another one of those groups discovered by the label. When describing this new find, I’m reminded of some killer brit pop bands like POBPAH or even fellow Australians Twerps. As many of you know our love for both of those bands, you can understand why I’m sharing this poppy and bright new song from the band entitled “Sometimes”.

Pick up new album Around the House via Trouble in Mind Records on September 2nd.

Meet Beef Jerk…the Newest from Trouble in Mind

8574_10152135614239724_1253391926_nIf you pay attention to our little site here, it should come as no surprise that we follow the work of Trouble in Mind Records pretty closely; I always rave about their bands. They just announced that they’ll be working with Beef Jerk, an act from Sydney. While the sound has a similar ringing to that of their country’s comrades, they’ve got a bit more energy in their riffs, letting the guitar hit hard while the vocals sit back behind in the mix. The band doesn’t slow down, they push the pace, push the listener, all the way until the abrupt end of the track. It’s a great introduction to an act on one of our favorite labels. You can pre-order the TragicHERE, or pick it up at your local shop on July 8th.

New Music from Tim Richmond Group

timrichSeems like we’re going to stick around the Oceanic area a lot today, which doesn’t bother me, especially when we’ve got the sort of music that Tim Richmond Group is creating. There’s sounds in the way Tim Richmond delivers vocals that definitely falls in line with what’s going on in his neck of the woods, but I love how the song moves into a realm of jazzy freak outs that’s not really utilized. Even within the confines of the chorus breakdown, he turns that sideways by offering a lounge croon that’s entirely enchanting, before bouncing back into the song’s steady groove. This song will appear on What’s in the Middle, being released on July 1st by Lost and Lonesome.

Sludge Rock From ORB

unnamed (1)Australian based sludge trio ORB make music comparable to a band like Terry Malts if they collided with some of the heavy guitar sounds of a band like QOTSA. With that in mind, hit play on this new single from the band entitled “First and Last” and see what it is I’m talking about. We’re mixing some parts psych rock here with some parts sludge and a bit of classic rock thrown in for good measure. It’s nice.

New album Birth will hit stores on July 1st on Castle Face Records.
