Another New Tune from The Parlor

Not too long ago I shared a new track from The Parlor, while also encouraging you to revisit Kiku…but now here we are with another new-ish tune from the band. This tune, along with the recent release of “Dream” were both written during the Kiku cycle, though they didn’t quite fit into that album’s narrative. Here, “Dive” has this instinctive heartbeat, this pulse that really propels the song forward. That pulse gets accented by these careful guitar lines dancing about, encircling the vocal melody from Jen O’Connor; it allows for the natural build towards a swelling pop sound that’s sure to delight your ears. Both of these b-side tunes are now available from the band!

New Music (To Me) from The Babies

babesFirst off, you should own Our House on the Hill by the Babies. The song “Alligator” alone warrants your ownership; it’s one of my favorite songs of the last few years, period.  Luckily, the band’s been holding onto some of their B-Sides while they’ve been working on solo Kevin Morby and Cassie Ramone LPs.  Woodsist has opted to released these two B-Sides as a digital single, and I’m going to pick them up (though I wish they came on a 7″).  This song from the release has that jangly swagger, featuring Morby on the lead vocal; it’s so tasty I’m not even sure how this track didn’t make the final cut! Listen and hit up the label for the release.

Free Album Reworking from PS I Love You

One of the groups that we fell in love with in 2011 was PS I Love You after jamming to their Meet Me at the Muster Station album. With their quick rise to popularity, the band was traveling all around the States, which led to the recording of the Muster Sessions.  It’s an album comprised of reworkings and live recordings the group did while hitting up Daytrotter and KEXP, as well as other spots.  Basically, it’s like a collection of John Peel-esque B-sides and remixes for you to enjoy.  They’re currently giving it away free in anticipation of their new record, Death Dreams, which comes out on May 8th.  For now, you can download the FREE ALBUM, and sample the hooks the band are sure to bring with their new effort.
