Last Week’s Jams (10.27 – 10.31)

During this time of the year, there’s slim pickings in terms of what’s out there, as labels and bands prepare to kind of whole up for the Winter, but we still have a really solid collection of jams for you. For starters, B. Gray and I met long, long ago at a Twilight Sad show at the OG Emos here in Austin (not the blasphemous new spot), so their new song gets precedent to show our love. We were really stoked to see our Internet pal Matt Kivel, currently of Austin, drop a single form his forthcoming LP, so that, of course, shows up. Then there’s just quality hit after hit, with Diles Que No Maten and Twin Shadow and Vilde and Devin Shaffer (sorry for the polysyndeton). There’s a little bit for you all!

New Ripper from Bee Bee Sea

We’re big fans of Italian garage rock outfit Bee Bee Sea, and as they prep for the release of Stanzini Can Be Allright; we definitely wanted to give a shout to their newest single as it encompasses their approach to gritty grooves with infectious hooks. If you just take the surface of the single, it’s rough and sounds like the group pressed record in their recording space. But, there’s this natural joy in their song, and you certainly feel it as the “you” gets stretched through what one might consider a chorus. Hoping a few copies will make their way overseas in these trying shipping times; the album is out November 21st.

Bee Bee Sea Drop It’s All About the Music

It’s three songs, or, well, it’s one song, played three different ways. This is the new release from Italian rockers Bee Bee Sea, dropping a fresh little scuzzy EP for you to crank up as we await the announcement of their new album. The focus track encompasses the band’s blend of garage rock aesthetics and bounding rhythms; they explode with infectiousness each time they hit that chorus, turning it into pure pop as the track spins to a control. I love how they’re music is seemingly sing-along ready, yet something in it gives it just enough to tether it to a more punk vibe, like in the “Fast” version on this new EP. Stream the OG version below!

Bee Bee Sea Share Day Ripper

I loved the first two Bee Bee Sea singles, so why would I turn my back on the Italian trio for their third one? This one’s got a bit of a sort of prog meets psych, mashed up with a nice bit of garage rock. It’s heavy and outlandish, perhaps that sort of fury and flare you’d expect at an Osees (however you spell it now) show. Perhaps one of my favorite bits is just the slightest hint of a pop nod leaking in sparingly, all before the band just ramps up the energy and rocks the tune out to a close. The band are set to release Day Ripper on October 9th via Wild Honey Records.

New Jam from Bee Bee Sea

Sometimes you just need to let loose on a Friday, and this track from Bee Bee Sea seems like the perfect way for us to look in on the weekend. I couldn’t help but feel the hooks of this song get me right from the start; there’s almost that sort of Nobunny/Hunx vibe working. It’s gritty and garage-y, but it’s not going to shy away from having one hell of a good time with us all. Let your hair down and have a little fun with this Italian outfit. The tune below appears on their new LP, Day Tripper, which drops in October via Wild Honey Records.

Rocking Number From Bee Bee Sea

Looks like we’re off to yet another fun filled week at home with way too much time on our hands to check out a ton of new music. Today I bring you a song called “Daily Jobs” from Italian rock band Bee Bee Sea. It features a sort of scuzzy, fast paced form of post-punk music akin to a guy like Ty Segall, King Tuff or The Oh Sees. Of course if you read this site, you know that means I am very much into this track. Check it out now.

Bee Bee Sea will release new album Day Ripper in October via Wild Honey Records.
