Last Week’s Jams (9.1 – 9.5)
There were some that covered more than us, and there were others that didn’t quite cover as much, but I’ll admit, feel like us only hitting 14 songs in a week was just scratching the surface of what came out last week. Still, we had Meritorio Records crushing the week’s end with new tunes from Strange Passage and the Wesleys. My personal favorite tune cranking out in under two minutes was that new jam from Teenage Tom Petties. Good to see the Apartments back too, so we ran the first single from their forthcoming LP, not to mention peeked back at the latest LP from The Fisheremen Three. It’s a quick run through this week, so make sure you crank it up and enjoy the ride!
It was a pretty busy week on my end, heading back into the school room and what not, but lots of great music making its way to our ears. Kicking it off with one of my favorite tracks of the year, with the latest single from Sorry, but then moves in to hear our friends I Was a King dabbling in the softer side of power-pop. Plus, the folks at Skep Wax and Slumberland keep pumping out the hits with new music from The Cords and Telephone Numbers. Really excited for you to hear the newest single from Austin’s Living Set too, if you missed it by accident; there’s another Austin act in there too named the Point, you might want to check if you’re into stretching your musical brain! All apologies are owed this week, as our playlist is rather short. I’m not sure if that’s because I’m trying to dig for the stuff not getting covered on the ‘Gum or just a slow news week the last few outings. Nonetheless, we were high on lots of rad Austin (and adjacent tunes); we had new stuff from Gus Baldwin, Day Friend, Alien Eyelid, San Gabriel and a new video from Moonkill…all repping the city/state fairly well. New Weakened Friends seems to have gathered the big hitters, especially with that Buckethead link-up! Would suggest checking out the Maura Weaver tune we premiered, but you do you folks!
It was a really strange week over on the music side of things; Tuesday blew up and we covered 10 brand new songs. But, then it’s like everything died and there were no new tunes. Alas, we managed to get into about 25 new jams, though one didn’t hit the DSPs, so we’ll have to have you play detective (or just go love Piggietails already). I got to meet some new bands this week, like Aussie’s Mana Pools, as well as My Generation, so be sure to keep an eye on both. Some diehard acts we love also came out with new tunes, such as Snooper‘s new album, Massage back in the fold and another Dancer hit from their forthcoming banger of an LP. Plus, the are is some ATX love from Nuclear Daisies and J’Cuuzi too! Get on it.
What a crazy week of music it was. We had new shit, cool shit, trendy shit, weird shit, dance shit…just a bunch of really awesome tunes. Austin had a lot of representation, with new jams from K. Boswell, Die Spitz and Day Friend and Thanks Light. There were several outright rad tunes that you need to crank up, like BRNDA and Weakened Friends, so be sure you click to give those the proper love. Some cool electronica style bops too, from the likes of Angel T33th, Brown Lemon and Solo Career. And, if you know what’s right for you, you’ll swing below and turn on that new Shame track…or find something weird in between.
It was a shortened work, so we crammed in a good 20 tracks to get you covered in the newest and coolest from “the underground.” Really loved some of the stuff coming out of the West Coast, like new Galore and The Wind-Ups; Texas had some decent representation too, with new Teethe, The Stayres, Alien Eyelid and Nuclear Daisies tunes making their way onto the playlist. Old favorites Quality Used Cars and the Radio Field made solid returns, and I found myself super stoked to have stumbled upon Madrone (whom you should all check out immediately). Okay, so we might have gone a bit overboard somehow. It was just one of those weeks where there were hits everywhere you turned. Austin popped up a ton on our end, with new stuff from Stella and the Very Messed, Whalers, Gus Baldwin, Thanks Light…and some retroactive love for Drunk Uncle and Little Mazarn. Fortitude Valley and the Beths battled it out on the site for pop rock supremacy, but you get to make the call which you love the most. Tons of great records were about too, with new stuff from Jeanines, Ryli, Tom Henry and more. The IT Department popped in with a reminder of Cut Copy‘s new album…plus a touch up on some other great jams from Mac DeMarco to Emily Hines…there’s a little bit in here for you all!
I might have cut last week short by taking off Friday in its entirety, as I was hanging in New Orleans with my wife and kids…but I’m pretty sure we packed a fair amount of jams into a short four day work week here. It was good to see my old friends in Other Lives back at it with new music, and offering up an orchestral pop number that’s focused and brief. We featured a couple of great premieres from Forever Star and Dancer, so you can circle back and get hitched onto those two bonkers tunes. Plus, good to see Quin Galavis hitting peak form with a new Living Set tune, so dabble all over and you’ll be able to love a little of it all.
Going to be a bit of an off week, as RayRay is out on vacation, and I head out on the latter half of the week, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t crush it last week. I was finally able to let the cat out of the bag about new music from Heavenly/Swansea Sound; RayRay dropped the premiere for new ATX powerhouse, Porcelain. Oh, and B. Gray was coming through with sick photo work from Kilby Block Party and OMD, so we’re really just trying to make your musical world better. There’s a bunch of sweet jams, though I’ll admit I’m really loving the Slow Summits new tune, as well as the cover by Glass Spells.
