More From Martin Crane

martinWe’ve already heard the title track of Martin Crane‘s new LP Physical Therapy which got us all excited to hear even more new music.  Today he’s appeasing our desires with this sweet new song entitled “Gunk of Stars”.  This one is even more upbeat and poppy when compared to the first single (which was hella catchy in it’s own way).  I’d dare say we have a true pop gem on our hands here folks.  Look at Crane, being all accessible and shit.

Once again, don’t forget to pick up Physical Therapy on November 20th via INSCAPE.

Martin Crane Steps Out on Brazos

martinOkay, so maybe that’s not entirely true, though what I do know is that Martin Crane is stepping out on his own, working under his own name. But, I’m guessing that the songs he’s crafting have a different place in his heart than what he’s done to date with Brazos. This new single seems more influenced by huge beats, vocal hooks and almost a hip sensibility for dancefloors. I don’t mean to disparage Brazos, but this song already feels like it could potentially have huger legs for Crane; it’s as accessible as it comes (I don’t mean that in a bad way at all!). Let’s wait to pass our full judgment on November 20th when he releases his album, Physical Therapy.

Show Preview: Brazos @ Holy Mountain (12.11)

Brazos

Date Wednesday, December 11th
Location Holy Mountain
Doors 9:00 PM
Tickets $10 from Transmission

I’m actually a little amazed at how much is going on in the music community this week, and this is an absolute must see show! Brazos, the one-time Austin band is touring in support of Saltwater, which we enjoyed; it also got a lot of great national press too..deservedly so.  We also did this great takeaway show with them HERE. Plus, you’ll get to see Ski Lodge again, who made one of our Top 50 LPs of the year, Big Heart.  The last time they played, B.Gray and I were having a grand old time.  And, you’ll get to see Austin’s own rising star, Jess Williamson.  You win all around by attending this show on Wednesday night.

Lost in Austin: Brazos

BrazosIt’s been a hot minute since we’ve worked with our friends over at Guerilla Waltz to create one of our Lost in Austin videos.  We typically wait around for the perfect band to fit our mold, and when former local residents Brazos were in town awhile back, it seemed like the right time to get back in the game.  So we sat down with Martin Crane in his studio to perform “Always On” off his new album Saltwater out now on Dead Oceans.  Follow the jump for video.

Brazos On Daytrotter

brazosAnother local band on Daytrotter this week!?  Touchdown!  We generally stay away from posting about Daytrotter twice in a week, but we couldn’t resist when we saw a session with Austin boys Brazos posted today.  The set features 3 old tunes and one previously unreleased track which you can find below.  Apparently the track is an older one that never got laid down to tape.

12/11 – Ola Podrida @ The Mohawk

olapdrida08It’s always an anxious evening when you are preparing to see one of your favorite bands for the first time.  Will they play your favorite song?  Will the show resemble the album precisely as you want it to sound?  Will you walk away with the same respect as the moment you entered?  Such were my thoughts as I spent Friday night preparing to see Ola Podrida at the Mohawk.  The bill included Martin from Brazos and local favorites Balmorhea.  Follow the jump for review and show pictures.
