Ciel Share All My Life

When Ciel dropped their Movement EP back in April, I was pretty awestruck; I played “The Shore” on repeat for weeks on end. They return today with a brand new track, drawing from similar territory, though raising the bar on their own sweetened brand of dream pop. Things start off as you’d expect, nice thick rhythm and softened vocals. But, the change in attitude at the 45 second mark indicates that the band intend to go huge on their new wave of songs; this is still dreamy, but they’re not burying any hooks here…just the opposite. Probably going to have this tune stuck in my head for a bit…how about you?

Nature TV Share Hometown Single

What is it that makes you fall in love with a single from the start? For me, its obviously the slight tease of jangling guitars before a beat drops in and takes things up a notch…as was the case with the latest Nature TV track. The Brighton outfit do a spectacular job balancing between upbeat rhythm section and a dreamier sensation through the vocal delivery. In a way, it kind of reminds me of a poppier version of what Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever are doing, just kind of in a trading in that Aussie punch for a more foggy British style…that I’m totally digging on at the moment. You can catch their new EP on September 18th via Heist or Hit.

Groovy Tune From Psychic Shakes

On this bright and sunny Monday morning, might I suggest you check out this new song called “Suddenly” from Brighton based group Psychic Shakes. Max McLellnm, the musician behind the Shakes moniker, has been on our radar since back in 2016, but we haven’t heard a whole lot from him since. Now it seems McLellnm has moved away from some of his surfier, bright pop vibes, and moved into a more groovy, R&B inspired pop sound. One can definitely find themselves getting a bit lost in the entrancing, mellow vibe of this track.

Psychic Shakes will release a new EP entitled Unsaid sometime later this year on Good Eye Records.

 

Fun Track From Nancy

If you’re looking for some fun new music on this bright and sunny Wednesday morning, might I suggest this new song called “Call Me on Your Telephone” from Brighton based artist Nancy. It features a garagey inspired take on pop music, and might invoke images of Franz Ferdinand with a more guitar driven focus. You can certainly find something to enjoy in the playful, and sometimes scuzzy, vibe.

 

Guru Drop Double A-side

GURU is a Brighton based band we’ve posted about a few times over the years on ATH and I personally have grown to love their style and sound. Yesterday the band announced not one, but two new songs dropping as a part of a double A-side experience. Both of the songs, “Don’t Talk” and “LTD” can be found for your streaming pleasure below. The first will hit you in the jaw with a fast and raucous pace in a more traditional punk rock style. Then the second will slow things down a little bit, but not too much, for more of an anthemic, epic song adventure. Both are fantastic.

Raucous New Single From GURU

We’ve previously mentioned the Brighton group GURU and their knack for loud guitars and growling vocals. Well the boys are back at it again, this time with a loud, raucous single called “Fixation”. For this one, the band do manage to slow things down at spots in the song for a more swing, or post-punk type sound. Those elements paired with the group’s usual snarling vocals and fast paced energy create a truly inspired song. I’m sure we will be sharing more from these guys as the information reaches us.

Hook-Laden Pop from Porridge Radio

If there was one song I wanted you to listen to on repeat today, the one that you’d inevitably find haunting the caverns of your mind, it’s this fresh track from UK outfit Porridge Radio. It’d be enough to say that the bouncing opening lines had me hooked, and you’d find the same, but then enters Dana Margolin to steal the show from everyone else. Her delivery has this clever indifference, but there are moments when she’s able to stretch her powers to emphasize certain lines in order to give the listener emotional catharsis. There’s something magical in her performance, something that seeps into your soul and never leaves. This single is their first new tune since 2016, so hopefully there’s more of this just around the corner; it’s out today via Memorials of Distinction.

Promising New Single From Youth Sector

Brighton, UK based band Youth Sector just sent over this new single “Run” and I though it needed to be shared with the ATH community. I immediately loved the way these guys create this mixture of 80s rock like Devo with some nice and bright elements of Brit pop. For me, the band is really creating something unique with the blend of these two styles and I expect we’ll be hearing more about them soon. We’ll of course share more tunes as we get them.

Guru Break Out Heavy Rocker

Admittedly, I’m in the softer side of my listening years, but I still like my guitars nice and loud from time to time. Guru fits perfectly into that, especially with family traveling in…I need a noise escape. Your ears only gets 14 seconds of respite, as the band blasts through it all from start to finish. The guitars have this sharp chug action, while the vocals definitely carry a dangerous growl that’s sure to rile up any old crowd. The Brighton outfit punish your ears like early Ice Age, so if that’s your cup of tea, keep an eye on the act.

Rocker From Strange Cages

As you probably know by now, I am frequently looking for solid rock n roll, fast paced music in a sea of what seems like nothing but slow burner music. Today my friends in Brighton based Strange Cages have this new song entitled “False Prophet Death Waltz” that is fulfilling my rock needs. This song doesn’t mess around as it kicks things off from the moment you hit play with a swirling lead guitar, banging drums and a screeching vocal delivery. Imagine if QOTSA had a more 60s psych rock sound.

Strange Cages will release new EP Silver Queen in September via Vallance Records.
