Woods to Release New 7 Inch

woods2_630x300Seems like just a few weeks ago that Woods released With Light and With Love…wait, it was just a few weeks ago.  But, the band is already back with two new songs that they’ll be releasing through Captured Tracks.  I think this song fits perfectly in with the musical themes from that album, so we can look at these songs as additional brushstrokes to that stellar album.  While the track is dominated pretty simply by a good melody, there’s still that folky stomp that band so often employs coming in near the end of the track.  You can grabs it on July 8th from the label.

Solid Pop from Tomboy

tomboyThere’s some electronic music that really pushes the boundaries of the genre, then there’s others that should just be appreciated for great execution. This song’s got a little of both, though I’m just enjoying it for the fact that it really just hits the spot today.  The beats are fairly minimal, with the track’s focus on the vocal performance; it’s a good thing those vocals are smooth too, adding to the song’s attraction.  It’s the second single from Tomboy‘s debut EP, which will be released by Captured Tracks this summer.

Naomi Punk Ready New Album

naomiWhispers of Naomi Punk have been growing louder over the last year or so, as the Olympia group’s popularity is spreading greatly.  There’s an off-kilter guitar chug that opens up the track, leaving plenty of room for the vocals to make their entrance with a like-minded walk-along vocal.  Personally, I like that the song holds steady almost throughout, rather than rush through an anthemic punk moment.  We should be up for good things when the band releases their new album, Television Man, via Captured Tracks on August 5th.

Another New Single from Craft Spells

craftyAnyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the great releases coming our way just as summer hits?  Well, if you’re like us, then you might be, but this Craft Spells single is pretty much guaranteeing the band’s new album, Nausea, some space in our summer playlist.  As I listen, I’m really impressed by the approach the band has taken, creating a pretty straightforward piece of pop, void of the typical tricks of bedroom pop.  There’s great clarity in the vocals and music approaches a grand scale.  Need another great record to add to your list of things to pick up? Here it is…it’ll be out on Captured Tracks on June 10th.

Revisiting the Bats to Honor Re-Issues

BatsInParis93I think the world is now a better place now that Captured Tracks has a hold of the back catalog to legendary label Flying Nun over here in the US.  I know that somewhere out there are original vinyl copies of some of my favorite acts, but I’m grateful too that I can grab a hold of some of these classics without too much hassle. The label has announced that they’ll be releasing 3 classic albums from The Bats, Compiletely Bats, Daddy’s Highway and The Law of Things; they’re all albums you should own, especially if you’re a fan of great pop music.  Not only will there by vinyl releases, but a  3 CD version that’s a compilation of   the releases (CDs are the new cassettes). All of these will be available on May 27th, and in honor, here’s a great single off of Daddy’s Highway.

Another Dreamy Pop Tune from Donovan Blanc

donoIt seems like Captured Tracks have another hit maker on their roster, as we now yet another great tune to enjoy from Donovan Blanc.  Just a short while ago they offered up “Minha Menina,” and now they’re back with what I say is an even better single than the first.  I love how this single bounces in with this ringing guitar, but the band quickly moves into a smoother delivery, letting the dreamier elements of their songwriting take precedence.  Their self-titled album will be available in stores on June 24th, giving you an opportunity to drift through summer with a perfect collection of tunes.

New Music from Donovan Blanc

1495173_227447864094491_1757161589_oI’m admittedly a huge fan of the work that Captured Tracks does, be it their reissues or their general tastes in music.  Their recent signing of Donovan Blanc is yet another band that confirms my allegiance to the label.  It’s got a mood that’s crafted by the melding of the guitars and the vocals, leaving your spirits up-lifted.  The band will be releasing their self-titled debut on the label on June 24th, giving us all a little bit of something to look forward to as the summer heat draws near. There’s a simple little video to go with it HERE.

Enjoy This New One From Craft Spells

9WqaxpUS65_CFmTW4oJO9GwShLo5p3TYQouPbWRJ18QI’ve been jamming this new track “Breaking the Angle Against the Tide” by ATH approved Craft Spells for a few days now, and I would dare anyone to find anything wrong with it.  Sure it’s not perfect, but the hazy, pop sound here seems to get better and better with each spin.  Give it a whirl and lemme know what you think.

Pick up new album, Nausea, on June 10th via Captured Tracks.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Blouse

blouseband-300x295Among the great stable of bands on Captured Tracks is Blouse, who changed things up on the release of their second album, Imperium.  They got rid of the synthesizers and other electronica elements, crafting a more powerful sound. I’ve always enjoyed watching their sets, and I look forward to seeing the live version of these newer tunes when they make it down to SXSW.  Here’s how they answered our interview questions while on the road to Austin.
