Breezy Rocker From B Boys

B Boys are a Brooklyn three piece making high intensity punk gems, or it least that seems to be the case on this new song/video.The sound on “Energy” reminds me of Ought in a lot of ways– the vocals are a bit detached from the instruments, but their delivery builds over the course of the track, spiraling out of control in to a barrage of quick lyrics in the last thirty seconds. To put it frankly, there’s a lot of Energy going on in the song as well as the video below, guitars cut through the mix with persistent punk intensity while front man spits line after line at you with a tone that only grows more heated. Take a peak below and just try not to feel amped up for the rest of your day.

Dada, the band’s upcoming full-length, will be out June 16th viaCaptured Tracks. Keep your ears to the ground for more from B Boys.

Hell Yeah! New B-Boys!

B-Boys teased us with an EP not too long ago, but looks like they’re ready to keep also you proto-punks bouncing about your room this year with their debut full length, Dada. From the moment you press go, jittery guitars jump at you while the bass bubbles just beneath; it’s delivered in a frenetic pacing, matching the dadaism dreams of the band members. Just as you think these guys are settling into their spastic groove, they bring in a few noisier elements scattering all sensibility in every which direction. Captured Tracks release the LP on May 19th, which can’t come soon enough.

More Music from Molly Burch

Molly Burch is going to be the lady of the year, just in case you weren’t in the know already. She’s teased us already with a 7″, but the release of Please Be Mine is getting closer, with all of us in Austin already waiting for you to hear what she brings to the table. Her soulful voice has already been hailed across the Internet, but I like the slight little pitch and tone changes on the end of syllables; it makes her heartfelt nature a little more playful, not to mention just a step outside your regular fare. If hits are what you’re looking for, expect Molly to bring them all your way on February 17th when the album hits stores via Captured Tracks.

Gabriella Cohen Signs to Captured Tracks

This song and announcement deserves some love today, even if you’ve already heard Gabriella Cohen‘s Full Closure and No Details. Captured Tracks just announced they’ve added the Aussie songwriter to their stable, after already adding the smoky voice of Molly Burch. Here, there’s a bit more of a dreamier aspect in Cohen’s voice, with the music reminiscent of a polished Shannon and the Clams; the chords hide in the background and backing vocals harmonize with the natural melody. I’m in, so I’ll definitely be picking up a copy of the record when it’s reissued on March 3rd.

Sorry I Missed This: Chastity Has a New 7″

The other day we got to hear this great new track from Chastity, and I totally forgot to write about that, so I’m sorry for that. I love the fragility in Brandon Williams presentation, particularly in the opening minute of the song…just before the guitars really kick in. At this point, a wash of distorted guitar smacks you in the face while Brandon’s voice soars in the far off distance. It briefly returns to the sedate tones before feedback reintroduces you to the emphatic stomp that closes the tune out. You can grab the new 7″ from Captured Tracks right now!

Hear Remastered Track from The Stray Trolleys

There’s a few of us around this neck of the woods that are way into Cleaners from Venus, so the fact that Martin Newell’s earlier project, The Stray Trolleys is getting the reissue format from Captured Tracks. I don’t really know how to pigeonhole the work, but in an attempt to try and spin it in a modern tone, just imagine that you got the Exploding Hearts together (RIP) and asked them to remove their punk ethos; you’d have just great pop music you could play over and over. The reissue of Barricades & Angels comes on January 20th.

ATX Spotlight: More from Molly Burch

mollyEarlier this year Austin’s Molly Burch unleashed a delightful 7″ with Captured Tracks, and now the label have finally announced the release of herdebut full-length, Please Be Mine. Of course, Molly’s got this throw back soulful pop styling, but I love how there’s some forcefulness in some of the notes she releases on this single. It’s great to see that there’s some textured variance in her delivery, meaning we can expect the full-length to be full of the promise we’ve all seen here in town; look for the release on February 17th of next year.

More Music from Lost Animal

lostanimalThis new Lost Animal single is exactly what I wanted today! This is precisely where I always expected pop music to go, and I’m thoroughly excited by tunes like this one. The music working in the background makes nods to the popularity of LCD Soundsystem (thought James Murphy didn’t create it), but the vocals have this incredible post Brit pop croon. It’s like Jarrod Quarrell is just working in his own world, and no matter where that takes him, he always manages to make it sound captivating. The new record is titled You Yang, coming out on October 21st via Dot Dash/Captured Tracks.

Enjoying This Lost Animal

I really enjoyed the diversity of Is Tropical, the last record that Lost Animal put out (all the way back in 2011). This new video shares a trippier world, which can easily be seen on that last record, but there’s still some growing, musically. I feel like this song sort of encompasses a world where Jason Spaceman decided he wanted to write pop songs; it’s textural and strange, yet also really accessible…if you like good songs. There’s a new album coming out called You Yang, and with Captured Tracks attached for the ride, we should all expect really great things. I like this more than Mac Demarco. I said it. Deal with it

ATX Spotlight: Molly Burch

The internet is buzzing with this new video/single from Molly Burch, and after taking a bit of time with this track, I can understand why. The song below, “Downhearted” is a gorgeous blend of dark, romantic pop with a hint of folk, all with Burch’s velvet vocals at the heart of the song. The mix is simple and low, allowing Burch’s voice to shine. It’s got an Angel Olsen-meets-Sharon Van Etten vibe to it, and you should definitely take a listen and get acquainted with this lady before she blows up big time. Pre-order the single here.
