Casual Technicians Offer This Emotion + Release New LP

Perhaps one album a year isn’t enough, or so say Casual Technicians, who release their brand new LP today (I’ll have it in a streams post later), but wanted to shout out this single. It’s the closing track, and in a sense, reminds me of early works from Peter and the Wolf, sort of operating that bedroom jam lo-fi folk vibe. Guitars are light and the production feels minimal, but the songwriting and emotion gets its hooks in you, even offering up some slight little oddball moments. This is the sort of wistful folk you deserve on a Friday, so be sure to check out all of Deeply Unworthy, out today via Repeating Cloud.

A ton of new music dropped this past week, and as usual, we were on-hand to cover the stuff sliding under the radar of the cognoscenti. We had a few premieres, like the latest from UVTV, which finds the band slowing things down and exploring the shadowy tones of dreampop. I made sure to hype one of my favorite releases of the month, Mo Dotti, which I’m hoping is on the way to my doorstep any day. Still, some of our favorite labels Meritorio and Bobo Integral dropped new tunes from Slack Times and The Psych Fis, and we filled in the gaps with popular favorites like 2nd Grade and Greg Mendez, among many others. When you get a Casual Technicians album, you get a sense of joy in listening, knowing that the group sat down and just poured their art out; they didn’t sit down aiming for genre or fads, merely to express that inner spirit. This is why there are varied sounds, like the latest single taking on more of a forlorn ballad you might here bellowed from a neighboring campsite off in the woods; it’s a contrast to the first single they put out from their new LP, which had a bit of a bedroom pop vibe to it. Still, these pieces link up together, and one can expect that Deeply Unworthy will illustrate just how much joy they can file into an album; it drops on November 15th via Repeating Cloud.

If you’re coming to our site, you generally jam a certain style of music, and with that, we want to make sure you’ve got Casual Technicians on your radar. They only released their debut LP a few months ago, and they’re already pushing forward with a fresh batch of tunes for us. When diving into this sea, you’ll be greeted by a nice little bob atop the waters, offering up a nice vibe, though nothing strikingly new. But, at the 25 second mark there’s a plot twist, offering up a different vocal that seems more earnest, and slightly Aussie influenced. They switch it up back and forth, always employing a snapping beat that kicks your feet up, and still pandering to those of us who think of Flying Nun as the Holy Grail. Deeply Unworthy is out November 1st via Repeating Cloud.
