Last Week’s Jam (12.4 – 12.8)

I know you’re all anxiously awaiting our year end collection of favorite songs, but we’re just not there yet! We did run our excellent Top Albums of 2023 last week, and while that’s getting all the headlines, there were tons of great new tracks to enjoy. I was particularly enamored with the new BVs tune, as you knew I would be, not to mention some deserved adoration for the brand new Lamplight track. Local friends Psychic Seatbelt dropped a new EP, so they’re getting some love here, and throwing in a Get Wrong tune to celebrate their EP from a week or so ago. Glad folks still put out music throughout the whole year, not just up until List Week.

Chemtrails Say Join Our Death Cult

London outfit Chemtrails have opted to leave the lo-fi production work of their early recordings in order to enhance the vibe on their new LP, The Joy of Sects. Their latest single definitely wears a bit of that studio perfection; you can hear it in the way the vocals get get intertwined perfectly creating this little hook that has your head spinning. But, the band still are driving this thumping psychedelia, often times brooding and other moments sputtering into a smashing bash of joy. When it all subsides, there’s this great bit of buzz trailing behind, locking in the band’s ability to hit all sorts of rock n’ roll notes. The Joy of Sects is out via PNK SLM on January 19th.

Lo-Fi Rocker From Chemtrails

London’s Chemtrails, if you haven’t already heard, are making waves with their debut EP which was just released last week. It’s an impressive first go, and it features the band’s high-energy lo-fi psych rock. The most recent single from that debut is “Golden Tombs,” the track below, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a track that packs more a punch in three minutes than it does. Immediately, you get these tightly wound guitars that blast their way into the track, and some gang vocals that are hazy and ferocious. Take a listen below, get pumped, and then go listen to the rest of Chemtrails’ EP over on their bandcamp page.
