The Native Cats Share Another Single from The Way On is the Way Off

Up until now, the majority of the tunes from the newest Native Cats LP have been sparkling in brevity, but this time, we get to hear the band twist and sputter in glorious post-punk fashion. You’ll get sucked in by the snapping drum beat, thumping at times, but mostly working to keep the song’s energy at its punchiest best. Put your near next to the speaker and you can hear the growl of the bass, vibrating as the tension grows and grows. Little bit of discordant noise joins up to sputter and howl in between the great vocal lines delivered by Chloe Alison Escott; you even get some backing vocalists joining the fray as the song pounds to a close. Look for The Way On is the Way Off via Chapter Music on November 10th.

The Native Cats Put Whole Back Catalog Up on DSPs

Admittedly, as a music journalist failure, I got into the Native Cats in a backwards sort of way, as I first fell in love with their singer Chloe Alison Escott (who did a Rock n’ Recipes with us!). But, if you’re like me, or have no point of reference whatsoever, you’re now in luck, as the kind (very kind!) folks over at Chapter Music have helped make the band’s entire catalog available for streaming on all the DSPs! You can now find your favorite Native Cats tracks from Dallas, John Sharp Toro, Process Praise and Always On! Expect a sound that’s right in line with where everything stands in the post-punk realm at present. So, take an act like Dry Cleaning and mix in the propulsive nature of Sleaford Mods, then throw in a stunner of a vocalist that’s going to keep you engaged on that end alone. Here’s a fun little playlist of the hits, as suggested by the folks at Chapter!

It’s been a crazy year, and a depressing year, so perhaps we all retreated more into our record collections to seek out that fleeting joy. On my end, I spent a lot of time running/walking in the ‘burbs, so these are the records that played the most in my life…thus they are my Favorite Albums of 2020. The validity means little to anyone other than myself, but since you stop by, perhaps come by and check out my list!

And, just an FYI…there are 30 bands, and I linked back to Bandcamp pages so you can buy directly from the artists…except that one band because apparently they’re too cool…even though that album rips.

Another Single from Chloe Alison Escott

I just simply don’t think its possible to listen to the work of Chloe Alison Escott and not be moved; you just can’t listen here and miss out on the natural drama of Escott’s writing. Merely piano and vocals on this tune from the Native Cats front woman, yet it just hits you in your core, something that speaks to the power of Chloe’s narration and vocal delivery. There’s a uniqueness too, something distinctive in her voice…the sort that leaves its scars on your eardrums as it courses into your brain. A striking elegance permeates this entire song, and for that matter, the whole of Stars Under Contract; the LP will offer up high brow pop art for the everyperson when it drops on October 16th via Chapter Music.
