Fancy Animals Offer Up Circles Single

This new single from Portland’s Fancy Animals has been floating around for a hot minute, and as you’re bound to hear the good stuff at some point, its landed on my shores…so here we are. Sonically, it’s not a far off nod to acts we adore like Blushing or Seablite, though in this presentation, the vocals take the focus and the dreamier elements of guitars get peeled way back, barely hanging on. Somehow, they manage to take the dream pop elements and spin them in a manner that almost feels like it was influenced by the Sneaker Pimps; it’s something in Rochelle’s voice that captures that sort of silky delivery that’s totally enthralling. Give a listen, won’t you.

Grass Jaw Prepare Circles

After the success of Germs, Grass Jaw feels like it should be a name on everyone’s tongue, especially as the band prepare for the release of their new album Circles next week. A few of the singles have been put out there, and I wanted to be sure we got this on the radar for everyone, as Brendan Kuntz songwriting gets filed somewhere between David Bazan and David Berman…and that’s something that definitely has my attention. “Circles” is a heavier handed number, carrying with it this weighted darkness, which is noted by both the vocals and the guitar sound. “Excuses” seems to be a bit more forceful, though still hard to pull away from Kuntz melancholy tones. If this is your style, remember, Circles is out officially on June 17th.

Francis of Delirium Share Circles

Honestly, as I was reading about Francis of Delirium, I realized I hadn’t really heard of bands from Luxembourg (there’s this fun list to browse). But, this duo would likely fit into any scene anywhere in the world; it’s a blend of the introspective rock and anthemic pop that we all secretly crave. For me, there’s a nostalgic feel in the guitar notes, almost like they’re ripped straight from some classic 90s band, then dolled up for the swelling burst of euphoria that crashes down through the chorus. Jana Bahrich does brilliantly, contrasting the quiet personal moments with bold brightness; I was particularly drawn to the emphatic closing, almost angrily pushing the song to a close. It’s a pretty special introduction to the band, and should turn your attention towards their All Change EP slated for release this summer.

SXSW 2015 Interview: Moon Duo

moon duo bannerMoon Duo is prepping the release of their new album, Shadow of the Sun, and with that, they’ll also be coming into Austin to show off their new jams…based on this interview, you might get to hear them all. I highly suggest you check these guys out; I’ve been impressed both times I’ve seen them.  They craft their shows specifically to fit their music, so you’re getting an experience, more than just a good old fashioned rock show. Sunny Day Real Estate Live

Why would we be posting about SDR, a band that’s been dead since the late 90’s you say? Well, we recently saw that the MTV Subterranean blog posted a video from 1994 of a live in studio performance from the band. The in studio is a 3 song set with great sound and even better video quality. Not familiar with Sunny Day Real Estate, one of the first emo bands? Have a listen to one of the band’s biggest hits “In Circles” below:
