Wimps Announce City Lights LP

It’s been a hot minute since we last heard from Wimps, but they waste no time in getting stuck right in our rotation with the announcement of a fresh new record on the horizon. Like many of us, the pandemic hit hard, but it did bring with it some special moments, like motherhood for Rachel Ratner. This song just rips right in, kicking off with a furiously pounding rhythm that rushes the song through your speakers as quick as can be! Lyrically, the song celebrates being a mom, while trying to find that balance between parenting and artistic creativity. As a dad, I can definitely relate to the need to find that balance! The band will be releasing City Lights on October 13th via Youth Riot Records.

Electro-Pop Number From The Sweet Serenades

I’ve been plugging away about Sweden based The Sweet Serenades for almost as long as our website has been around. During that time, the band has evolved and changed direction several times while still managing to keep me interested and engaged. Now the band has become a one man band of Martin Nordvall with founding member Mathias Nslund departing the duo in 2014. With that loss, the band has once again evolved to feature a more electronic, atmospheric sound, as evidenced by this new single “City Lights”. It’s definitely more focused on the electronic, pop side of things though still catchy and slow dance inducing just like some of the old favorites that first drew me to this band. For me, it seems like a natural progression to arrive at this more mature sound after years pumping out great music.

New Music from Film School

It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard from Film School, especially the original line-up that helped make their brand new June EP. Seeing as that’s been almost ten years, things have changed, both for the music world and for the band. You can hear growth and maturity in the band’s new single, opening with a sprawling bit of post-rock before the yearning vocals drone echo through your ears. It’s a fitting track to be matched with the black and white cinematography of the video meant to accompany the tune. Look for the new EP on February 12th.
