Last Week’s Jams (7.31 – 8.4)

I really thought we knocked it out of the park last week, covering 25 different tunes. But, it looks like we decided to one-up ourselves and post 26 for this week’s Last Week’s Jams collection. We got some of our favorite labels and bands putting out fresh new stuff, like new Tony Jay on Slumberland and new Onyon on Trouble in Mind. Plus, our friends at Keeled Scales are putting out a new LP with one of my favorite Texas songwriters, Will Johnson. All that and we haven’t even talked about how great that new Smashing Times single is. As much as it can be a challenge to cover it all, feel like we did our damndest to bring you some of the more deserving hits you might not find where the cool kids hang out.

Clear Coast Drop On My Own Single

As German outfit Clear Coast prepare for the release of their latest LP, Departure, they’ve sprinkled in another enticing little number to get your ears all geared up. There’s a heavy wash of keys that gives the song this sort of ethereal nature to it, almost as if the rest of the tune is able to float atop. Vocals and bass both seem to pop and rise, then sink back into the mixture, all of it swirling through your ears with faint hints of modern psychedelia. In the end, the group manage to build this dense blend of styles to create a nice little ditty to kick you into Monday.

Last Week’s Jams (1.30 – 2.3)

This whole 2023 thing has been quite a shit show from those at the ATH offices: forced server changes, loss of electricity, loss of Internet (still!), and we’re old! But, we keep pushing on, as there’s still plenty of great tunes for you to cover and enjoy. It was good to hear that our old pal Jana Horn has a new LP on the way; she’s been one of my favorite voices forever. I think my favorite jam of the week came from the latest single from Roller Derby…with a video that has lots of nods to Austin and their journey to SXSW last year. Plus, Elephant 6 added the Rishis to their roster, so be sure to give a listen. Label of the week clearly goes to Slumberland with more Frankie Rose and new Reds, Pinks and Purples. I aim to hopefully have more tunes up this week! But enjoy a quick journey through what we loved last week!

Clear Coast Urge You To Get Moving

Don’t let the dark and dreary atmosphere of the outside influence your mood too much today, and instead check out this new tune called “Phonecall” from German based outfit Clear Coast. It features some really groovy synth work with dance inducing beats and an indie electro influence heard from bands like Small Black or even Tame Impala. I dare you to hit play and not immediately move your body to the beat.

I’m told that this song is featured on a new album entitled Departures coming out sometime this summer.

Clear Coast Share Againiam Single

If you’re like me, and you see the holidays as a long slog through social anxieties instead of rest, though you wish you could make your brain think otherwise, then perhaps turn on this bright new Clear Coast single. These German lads have this sound that’s built somewhere between New Order pop radio tendencies and early 2000s indie rock; it’s a wash with synths and catchy melodies. In summation, its just an energetic bop that really helps you put one foot after the other, giving you a little bit of strength to push on through. I love when a pop tune walks that fine line of dreaminess and hope, so if that’s your need, it’s right below!
