Jangly New Tune From Mainland Break

It’s a warm one in ATX and sometimes it pays to try and imagine cool breezes with light sunshine on the coast or really anywhere that’s not 100 degrees. Denver, CO seems like a good spot at the moment, and the lads in Mainland Break are certainly making me jealous with their new jangly, indie rock joint. It also has an accompanying video that evokes those same, cooler Colorado vibes. The track sort of hits me in a Fruit Bats, meets Local Natives, meets Foreign Born sort of way and will surely hit you in all the right spots in your ear holes.

This tune will be part of a new album entitled One Way Ticket to Midnight due out on July 21st.

Slow Caves Share New Single

Feel like we should start this week off with something on the dreamier side of things, like this new track from Slow Caves. For me, I was really digging on the fact that it appropriately balances the better parts of Britpop with the heavier shoegaze sounds. That fuzz and distortion, however, hangs in the song’s background, so it’s not overbearing, allowing the band’s pop sensibility to kind of shine through that atmospheric wash of guitar noise. I really loved the ending vocals, with the way “not ok” kind of hits a higher, more urgent note; it reminded me in a lot of ways of Ash…which is never a bad thing. Enjoy!

Dreamy Number From Gleemer

Happy mid Monday to all of you lovely, quarantined people. I don’t know about you, but during this time music has really given me a sense of community, hope, and level headedness. Maybe this new song called “Down Through” from our old friends in For Collins based band Gleemer can offer you something similar. It’s a quiet, dream pop number falling into what some might call the early, to middle portions of the emo faze. What this offers to freshen up that style, is some expertly recorded, loud drums and a vocal style which sort of melts into the music. This is definitely going to be on repeat today.

Gleemer will release new LP Down Through on May 8th via Other People Records.

Paper Bird

While stumbling aimlessly around this great city of ours on Saturday night, I had the good fortune of catching an intimate, middle of the night set by Denver, CO band Paper Bird.  Finding a band worth watching at 2 in the morning is pretty rare so I thought I’d throw a little love the way of this Rocky Mountain band.  Paper Bird is a band earning quite a following in their home city of Denver and surrounding areas.  Upon first listen, the 7 piece acoustic band come off sounding like a grassroots old timey folk band with 3 lovely ladies sharing vocal duties.  Oh and those vocals… These 3 ladies might win the award for best female vocals ever.  Yes, they’re that good.  The band is currently touring in support of their 2007 debut LP Anything Nameless and Joymaking.  See what all the fuss is about with hearfelt tune “Sacrifice” below:
