Keep your eyes on the goings-on in North Carolina, where you’ll find the solid work from folks like Cor de Lux. They’ve got a new album coming out on February 10th, and they continue to blend all sorts of elements that tend to leave you in this sort of mesmerized state. Ambient noise trickles in, setting the scene for what’s to come; then distorted riffs come in, accented by an angular note ringing out from behind, with the drums anxious to join in by playing on the cymbals with a slight thud. Soon the angular guitars take hold, creating this sort of droning post-rock world, which is where we meet the dual vocal personalities that play into the track. The male vocals are heavy, matching the musical mood, while the female vocal seems to operate as a counterpoint, all of which comes to a head for this beautifully moving moment at 2:45 where there’s a more angelic moment billowing through your speakers. More shifts come into play as the song draws to a close, but who am I to give all that away.
