Hella Catchy New Day Wave Tune

Though it’s been a hot second since we last posted on Oakland based Jackson Phillips and his project known as Day Wave, we’ve shared tons of his songs over the years. Today we are treated to a hot new track called “Potions” from the Cali based artist and it is a real delight to listen to on repeat. For me it has that Cali, indie pop sound similar to old school The Drums or even some of the earlier Day Wave tracks that originally revolutionized the genre. You’ll find that this song will perk up your mood in these strange times.

Day Wave is releasing a new EP entitled Crush on April 24th via [PIAS].

Introducing: Nudes

tumblr_inline_n5xvoywElU1qbkaszThere’s probably not a lot of information out there at the moment on Nudes, as the band’s a fairly new entitiy.  The group features members of Saturday’s Kids, Breathe Out and Playhouse; three rad UK groups already making a solid name for themselves.  This fresh trio have just recorded their first single, and it’s being given away as part of Art is Hard‘s Pizza Singles Series, which has been pretty spot on in 2014. On the single, it opens up with this light guitar and distant vocal, but hold on, as the group blasts off into this jangling guitar pop that’ll be sure to brigthen anyone’s Friday afternoon.  Hope you enjoy this little ditty.

Dyaln of the Mallard Returns as FRONDS

frondsRemember the dark punk of The Mallard? Well, don’t think that FRONDS is going to sound anything like that just because former member, Dylan Tidyman-Jones, is behind the sounds.  Instead, he’s crafted this incredible dreamy pop album, featuring the song below; it’s a self-titled album that will be out on October 8th by new Castle Face imprint Do Not Disturb.  My ears hear bits of Papercuts, just in the way there’s a shimmering bit of pop lurking beneath the dream-like atmosphere of the tune.  It’s just a really majestic tune that seems perfect to take us all into the weekend.

Show Preview: Wild Nothing, Abe Vigoda @ Red 7 (2/4)

Date Friday, Feb 4th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 from Frontgate

February has already kicked off with some great shows, but I reckon to bet that there won’t be a better ticket in town than this, whether it’s snowing or not!  First, Wild Nothing won over fans last year with Gemini, and continued kicking ass with the Golden Haze EP.  Their combination of bedroom pop and electronica just fits perfectly into our lives.  Then, you have the incredible Abe Vigoda, and since this is their first tour since the release of Crush, you know they’re going to bring their A game.  On that alone, two amazing bands for $8, you should go.  But, because life sometimes can get better, you have two of the hottest bands in town opening with Bali Yaaah and Superlitebike.  Haven’t gotten to see Bali Yaaah just yet, but Superlitebike is ridiculous live.  Do it folks, lets keep each other warm.
