Nightshift Announce Homosapien LP

I can’t tell you how excited about a new Nightshift LP on the horizon. I actually only got into the band a few years ago when they dropped Zoe (though I somehow ended up with a CD not an LP–weird choice on my part), but I did play it out pretty non-stop. I likely wanted to put the Glaswegian lot in that post-punk box, though if you listen to their new work, it’s clear that they’ve carefully been wiggling out of those trappings since the get-go. Little slinky guitar notes angle their way into the picture, washed ashore via the ambient soundscape behind; Eothen Stern scrawls her vocals across that soundscape, though the notes leave plenty of space for musical cascades to fall from the speakers, sharply knifing through each up-and-down note climb. It’s like they’ve embraced the jam, albeit in their own distinctive nature, and we’re totally into it. Homosapiens drops July 26th via Trouble in Mind Records.

New Jay Arner Tune

jayOkay, so perhaps I’ve been going a little post crazy this week, but there’s just been so much great pop music that I can’t turn my head away; I can’t stop posting it! My latest joy has been this great Jay Arner tune, off his forthcoming album, Jay II. Interestingly, some of it sounds like the dark synths of Blank Dogs, but other times, there’s just this simple infectious hook that plays through your mind over and over again. This new record will hit just in time for your summer pool parties on June 17th via Mint Records.

Hazy Psych From Levitation Room

12240383_781517001959479_5592848956067417195_oWhen trolling for songs in internet land, one must always check with the labels they know are always killing it, so naturally, Burger Records is responsible for North LA’s Levitation Room. This track, “Crystal Ball,” is pretty much your textbook psych rock, but that doesn’t mean it’s plain or not worth a listen. It’s got a solidly catch choral hook as well as 70s-esque vocals, plus an overall mystical vibes surrounding the song. Their debut full length album, ETHOS, is due out in February, so keep your ears to the ground for more from the band.
