I raved about Colin Miller‘s first single from the forthcoming Hook EP; it made me feel like even little old (emphasis on old) me was capable of crafting something meaningful. On his new single, there’s something else going on entirely, something that’s perhaps not as easily put into words. For me, the song has the emotional pull, which is interesting, as I’m usually drawn to vocals first. Miller does his part, but his vocals almost feel like he’s singing from beneath some underwater bubble; it actually leads to the voice being established as just another element in the song’s emotional draw. That textural touch reels you in like a fish on a line, dumping you in a bucket of raw emotions, tied to the song’s thematic references to dying relationships.
