The Boys with Perpetual Nervousness Share Unreleased Single

Way back in the day, I raved about the Boys with Perpetual Nervousness debut LP, Dead Calm; it featured the standout hit “Nervous Man,” which still gets constant play on my own playlists. Recently, the band have announced that they’re going to reissue the album, with a bunch of demos attached…and a bonus track that didn’t make the LP. The charming tune below was part of the Dead Calm recording session, but left off merely because the band wanted to keep the record to 10 tracks rather than 11…simple as that. It’s got crisp riffs and a steady bounce, all attributes that have made the group one of the best power-pop purveyors going these days. The deluxe edition of the LP will be out on September 13th via Bobo Integral.

Austin Leonard Jones Shares Demon Sands, Drops Dead Calm

The latest album from Austin Leonard Jones very much feels like a Texas affair, from production duties helmed by Jesse Woods to Shane Renfro and others aiding in the recording. But, the album, itself feels like a Texas album. Take this two little ditty, for instance: it feels like you’re stepping out onto the dusty dancefloor with your partner nestled on your shoulder, ready for that slow jam that closes out the night. The twang, the longing are omnipresent here, but really, there are these slight little vocal moments throughout that warm me, like the slight voice rise at 1:07; it’s subtle, but the more you listen, the more you’re won over. If you dig it, then be sure to check out Dead Calm, the recent record out now courtesy of Perpetual Doom.

Stream The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Debut LP

Just a week or two ago, The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness teased their debut LP with “Close the Doors;” I wrote about the churning pop magnificence. Now, Dead Calm isn’t officially out until March 1st, but Pretty Olivia Records is already streaming the record in its entirety. If you missed the crystalline guitars of the Lucksmiths, with the occasional power-pop pep, then this is where you belong today. I’ve been playing “Southern Words” on repeat for some time today, and also happy to see that “Nervous Man” found a home on the LP. Dammit, I’m going to go down into the worm hole that is this entire album; join me, won’t you!

The Boys with Perpetual Nervousness Announce Debut LP

If you paid close attention to my year end list of indiepop last year, you saw the “Nervous Man” single from the Boys with Perpetual Nervousness included. Now, the band have announced their debut LP, and it looks to be filled with these twinkling jangles and warm melodies. Andrew Taylor takes over vocal duties for this song, while 12 string guitars charm your pants off; I love the little vocal twist at the end of the song just before the 3 minute mark. It makes sense that I adore this, as the band also features Gonzalo from El Palacio de Linares. Could he make two hit albums in one year? We’ll see when Dead Calm appears on March 8th via Pretty Olivia Records.
