You’ll Love The Oceans

The Oceans are a duo from Copenhagen who make their very own brand of dream pop, shoegaze style music. Having just released their new EP, EP II, the band is looking to drum up some positive praise for the collection with tons of new singles. This one, called “Rewind Your Mind”, features a lot of sonic noise along with a bright guitar and some synths in the background. The brightness, paired with the heavy beat drops and sludgy bass, create an almost perfect shoegaze song. Well played gents.

If you’re liking this one, you can stream the band’s entire new EP II over on Spotify.

Give Trainwreck Department A Listen

Trainwreck Department is a bedroom project of Danish songwriter Jacob Faurholt, and the last few weeks his tunes have been getting a heavy rotation at my house. There’s something that feels vital to the current musical climate, though there also are some musical moments that feel completely indifferent to expectations. I love “Doctor Please,” though songs like “The Stars are Shooting at Us” carry a heavier vibe, particularly in the chorus; you’ll also find intimate strumming in “Carousel,” giving you bits of everything you’re looking for. Plus, all these tracks are fairly short, built for quick consumption in the current climate. Stream the No. 1 EP below.

More Music from Lowly

This new Lowly track is another example of why the band is quickly making a name for themselves in our neck of the woods. Tight percussion works beneath a wash of synthesizers as the heavenly vocals fill in the rest. The band uses a great bit of negative space, never allowing instruments to step atop of one another or the voice; it’s textured pop music, but the sparkling clarity leaves a stunning impact on listeners. The band will release their album Heba tomorrow via Bella Union, and you’ll want to be sure to spend some time with it going into this weekend.

Yung Return with New Single Off New LP

Last year, it seemed like everyone was raving about Denmark’s yungYung, so it should be surprised that the group are working on their much anticipated debut album. This first single is interesting, as it begins in almost a casual manner before changing pace and racing off to the finish line. It sounds like the band have taken on a more guitar pop oriented focus on their new songs, while still keeping a bit of grit with the vocals. Look for A Youthful Dream, their debut album, to come out this June via Fat Possum.

New Tune from Yung

yungI really dig the vibe coming from Danish outfit, Yung. Interestingly, they seem to be meeting where my own two music worlds collided (or do collide). Part of the song has this infectious power-indiepop vibe to it, while the other part has this classic alternative vocal growl.  All the while there’s this urgency from the band, which definitely carries over to the listener. I reckon it’s just another good reason to give their These Thoughts Are Like Mandatory Chores EP a few listens on its September 18th release date, courtesy of a Fat Possum.

Say Hi to The Glow Cats

glowcatsAnother day, another great discovery from Jigsaw Records.  This time around the label has unearthed The Glow Cats, a Danish band that’s been around for some time now. The label is releasing Cat Bits, which is a compilation of sorts for the band, though it includes four brand new songs that will start off the 28 track collection. The songs you’ll hear are bouncy, they’re jangling, and they’re pretty spot-on brilliant.  It’s one of those spirited acts that makes being an indiepop fan so perfect.  Give a listen and head to Jigsaw to grab the album for yourself.

Fuck Yeah, More New Communions

front_digiMan, this Communions band has me excited for things to come.  The band blends some of that discordant dance music with 80s pop tropes.  It’s something that has the potential to carry on for a long time, especially considering that the oldest member of the band is only 21.  As of now, the tunes are good; they’re catchy, they show the spirit of the band.  Personally, I hope to see some growth, sonically, maybe taking some risks with the sound.  But, for now I’m hooked on the act, which makes their forthcoming self-titled EP quite intriguing; it’s available on June 2nd via Tough Love.

Communions Make the Perfect Sort of Pop Music

commieThere’s really not too much information traveling about involving Communions, but one things seems to be that everyone who has taken a listen to the Danish group has found themselves falling in love.  Honestly, I hear a lot of great similarities to our boys Literature; the song below has that same jangle and there’s just a hint of obscuring vocal effects.  I think it’s the perfect way to wrap up our week here, as it’s a near perfect song.  They’ve got a Tough Love Records 7″ coming out on November 10th, so let’s hope we get to hear more from them.

Beauty From Communions

10646748_695315667227066_7770546735906319449_nCopenhagen based Communions are wooing me today with this beautiful number called “So Long Sun”.  The track starts out with some atmosphere to ease you into things, but then builds and builds into some loud, hazy pop moments of shear beauty.  All in all, this is a track worthy of a few spins today.

This song appears on a new 7″ due out from the band on November 10th via Tough Love Records.
