Recent Rocker from Food Court

smileFood Court first came to my attention via the RSTB blog, and I’ve been jamming their latest EP ever since that day…earlier this week. As I browsed for something cool to post for you on this Friday, I figured you’d appreciate an energetic close to your afternoon.  This track has everything you need, from a bouncing bass line to hook filled choruses that will have you tapping your toes and aching to sing-a-long at the top of your longs.  It’s the title track from the band’s Smile at Your Shoes EP, so pick it up if you need a pick me up.  Enjoy your weekend folks.

New Music from Warm Brains

1421044_585658611487612_1302266135_oIt’s great watching little labels grow and blossom, and I’m continually impressed by the work of the guys over at Art Is Hard Records.  They up-the-ante on their subscription every year, and with that hard work, have afforded more time and finances to put out other works, such as this new piece from Warm Brains.  I can’t help but to hear little bits of Brit Pop lurking within the track, though it seems much more modern than that.  I guess you can say it’s a more angular version of what I hear when I listen to Teenage Fanclub.  The EP is titled Happy Accidents, and they’ll be releasing it on December 16th to wrap up a great year.

New Music from Finnmark!

finnmarkDuring festival season you occasionally miss the hits you were most forward looking forward to, so I definitely owe a bit of gratitude towards Howard at Indie Pop for pointing me in the direction of this great new Finnmark! We’ve written about the band on several occasions, but not since August have we heard new tunes. They’ve just put up a new single via February Records, and this one shows a more somber tint to the band’s sound.  You’ll still find a deep tone to the vocals, which go perfectly in line with the heavy jangle that holds the song together.  Take a listen to this killer tune.

More New Tunes from Magic Trick

MagicTrick_smallAs reported last week, there’s a new album from Magic Trick, the side-project (of many) by Tim Cohen of Fresh and Onlys.  Based off this tune, and the one we ran last week, he’s slowing things down, as usual with this project.  The guitar is pretty nice, with this Southern twang/slide working throughout, while the rolling drum emphasizes a journey one must take. Adding a female touch in the vocal section definitely adds an extra layer of majesty to the project. River of Souls will be out on Decemeber 3rd via Empty Cellar Records.

New Jam from Little Racer

RACER_01.141746It’s always funny to me how some bands break in the UK before ever making waves in the US, so I definitely feel like I need to open my eyes beyond my own shores…such is this global world.  One of the bands that have really made a name for themselves abroad is Little Racer of NY; they even put out a 7″ overseas in 2011.  But, things look to change with catchy tracks such as the one below.  There’s a dark quality from the sound of the guitars and the brooding bass line, but you’ll still hear an accessible pop sensibility lurking beneath.  Enjoy this track and wait for the group’s upcoming EP.

Relaxed Number from Delay Trees

delay_trees_promo_2013_2I’m in love with the modern genre that I’m going to dub casual-pop, or cas-pop for those who want to hype it up.  It’s a genre focused on airy guitar work, warm melodies and occasional lo-fi tendencies…such as Real Estate or Twerps.  The genre’s made its way over to Finland and Delay Trees.  They’ve just offered up their first single as a teaser to Readymade, which is their new album; it’s slated for an early 2014 release via Soliti.  I liked their last album, but if they keep writing such incredibly well-crafted tunes like the one below, then I’ll surely declare my love when it hits the streets.

New Punk Rock from Autistic Youth

autisticyouth-1281927164We started this week with a lot of softer tracks, so I feel like we should offer you the flip side of the coin with the newest tune from Autistic Youth.  The band have been fairly quiet lately, but they’re readying a new LP for Dirtnap Records titled Nonage.  The album wears their influences on its sleeve with a punishing combination of hardcore, not to mention a softer touch you’d find in old skate video games by employing gang vocals to encourage maximum crowd participation at shows.  You can pick up the album next week from the label; it should be in stores shortly after.

Catchy Tune from The Sea Life

seaMondays are always difficult for everyone, trying to climb out of bed and head back to the daily grind.  Sometimes you need a nice little pick me up, and I hope that this tune from The Sea Life helps you out in that arena.  The band’s been changing around the line-up a bit, and they claim that that has influenced their sound a bit; whatever they say, it’s good to my ears.  It’s got this throbbing hook, but in an indie pop realm, as opposed to some sort of electronic induced push and pull. Definitely a group who’ve caught my attention today. Enjoy.

Austin Show Preview: Grape St. @ Hotel Vegas (11/2)

Grape St.I’m feeling local this weekend, and though there are a couple of interesting traveling tours coming into town (Those Darlins/The Blow), I really think your best bet is to end up at Hotel Vegas on Saturday night. Some of our favorite bands will be playing that evening; these are bands we’ve supported in some fashion since we started this site. You’ll get to catch Booher, which is the new project from former Zykos member, M. Booher.  Plus, you’ll get Frank Smith, who’ve put out tons of great songs, all of which we’ve enjoyed.  Headlining the night will be another band we clearly support, as we helped the band put out their self-titled LP: Grape St.  They’ve only gotten better over the last year, and you should expect a full house to bring things to a riotous evening. And, it’s going to be cheap, so why not hit up a great local show?!

New Single from The Ocean Party

oceanpartyI’ve definitely been on an Australian bent lately, and I want to continue that with our friends in The Ocean Party.  They’ve just released their new record, Split, and I’m pretty sure that anyone that listens to the single below will find as much reason to love them as we do.  There’s a relaxed vibe to the vocal, which is often the case with the group, but the guitar sound should sound familiar to all, as it’s got a bright angular sound that’s being utilized around the globe.  If you’re with me, then you’ll be all about this beautiful song and the rest that are on the album.
