Dreamy New Parrot Dream

You might remember Parrot Dream from our brief SXSW Interview with the band, but if not, let’s refresh a bit. The group began in Chile before relocating to Brooklyn where they fleshed out their band with various friends. They’ve finally gotten all the pieces together, amassed a decent following and now have their debut full length ready for you. Our first listen has this excellent blend between shoegaze and dream pop, which I suppose always combine to make the perfect mix. The guitar has this refreshing glisten with atmospherics lurking from behind from layered electronics. Christina soon enters the fray, letting her voice hang above it all, almost casually in fashion. Light Goes will be out on August 24th via Good Eye Records.

Nice Dream Pop From Lev Snowe

The dream pop genre has been gaining a lot of steam recently and sometimes certain artists can pull of the genre a hell of a lot better than others. Take the young Lev Snowe for example who crafts some beautiful numbers which further expand the quality of the genre. His new song entitled “When I Look Back” is a perfect example of his song writing skills. My favorite piece of the song is near the 3:00 minute mark when things break down a bit with some slick bass lines and enchanting beats. I suggest you check it out now.

Dreamy Pop from Spirits of Leo

Spent a lot of my time the last week catching the various dream pop and shoegaze-y outfits on my personal list, and then I come home to hear this great track from Spirits of Leo. The vocal delivery definitely has similarities to like-minded acts in the genre, lurking just beneath the surface while the musical element creates the song’s driving force. Faint bits of jangle occur there, though those chords swirl and collide, crafting more of an atmospheric vibe that blankets the listener. The band plan to release their new album, Equinox this Friday, March 23rd.

Enjoy This Dreamy Pop Number from Goth Dad

Back as a teenager, I craved those loud guitars, that barrage of noise. But, as my tastes have evolved, I think I lean towards the prettier side of the “gaze” arena. This new Goth Dad tune really is doing it for me, bringing in that side with these shimmering keyboard notes and careful guitar chords just hanging out in the air. Sure, there’s a few moments when the distortion pedal gets pushed all the way in, and it actually fits quite nicely into the context of this track. I’ll take pretty and restrained any day over noise for noise sake. Congrats to this Mississippi act on a well-written gem.

Celebrate the Release of Blushing’s Weak EP @ Cheer Ups (1/27)

We’re really really excited to kick of the label side of ATH with our first release of 2018: Blushing‘s Weak EP. It’s a heavy dose of dreamgaze gems, all organized into a handy 12″ record. Several tracks have already garnered raves from the likes of DKFM Radio to the esteemed Gold Flake Paint, so clearly they’ve got something you need. Plus, if you’re in the Austin area, you can catch the band live at their release show at Cheer Up Charlies on Saturday night. It’s a pretty solid bill, with Ringo Deathstarr and Single Lash among bands filling the evening out. Jigsaw ReIssues Kaveh Kanes Capital Album

Dream pop/indiepop fans hopefully have heard of this out of print album by Kaveh Kanes; it was originally released on Kolibri Rekords a few years ago. Lucky for us all, Jigsaw Records are giving us a chance to get it back in our hands. This little gem is filled with cascading guitar lines and atmospheric touches that are perfect for putting your head on your pillow and drifting into the day. NO! The video is not weak, it’s the title track of the band’s brand new Weak EP, being released by yours truly in January of next year! This week New Noise were super kind, and dropped the video for the track. I wanted to circle back a few days later, make sure we got in front of you as well before you head off into the weekend. Don’t need to say much more than we’re really excited for 2018, and couldn’t think of a better way to kick it off than with Blushing‘s new EP. The Return of Seapony

Like many fans of dreamy indiepop, there are few things better than seeing one of the bands you adored spring back to life after announcing the end. Thanks to IPSML I was pointed to the fact that Seapony have quietly returned, with promise of the brand new Be Here Again EP to come in late August; it’s their first release since 2015 when they said they were calling it a day after releasing the vastly overlooked A Vision. I love this band so much I once booked them for one of our favorite SXSW gigs in a backyard on blacktop next to a chicken coop with a table full of Deep Eddy vodka…and to this day don’t ever think I’ll top that show. You enjoy the song. I’m just going to sit here grinning at my desk.

She Sir Returns With New Album

Those of you that know of my appreciation for indiepop and the like will surely be aware of how much I adore Austin’s She Sir. Today we’re here with this brand new tune to announce the release of their new LP, Rival Island. Even if you’re not aware of the band, this is a great place to start, as the guitar work here is exactly what makes the band so special…sometimes it’s jangling, sometimes it’s circular, sometimes it’s dreamy. Russell’s voice sounds perfect behind it all (soft and understated), providing what continues to seem like effortless pop of the best sort. There are few, if any, that do it better than She Sir, so look for the new album from Shelflife on July 21st.
