Dress Warm Release Backyard Single

We’ve been covering Dress Warm for a few year’s now, watching as the Austin trio found their musical footing. With their latest tune, you get this feeling that they’re finally settling into their skin. There’s this fragility that remains, particularly in the vocals, crafting this earnestness that’s capable of bewildering listeners. At the moment, I’m enjoying the way they’ve buoyed the sound, adding in textural strokes that move the song beyond just mere songwriter craft, then continue to grow that power into the track as it moves towards its close. Stoked to see what they’re working on, as this sounds like some of their strongest vibes.

Last Week’s Jams (4.24 – 4.28)

I felt like I let you down last week, having only really covered about 17 new songs, but in that, we tried to make sure there were some burners in there that would get you excited. What better way to start off this week’s recap than bringing you the world’s best power pop outfit, The High Water Marks and their new single. We got a new RVG tune, which is never a bad place to be, plus Beach Fossils continued to show their growth on the new LP. And, it wouldn’t be us if there was no Austin contingent, so we ran an acoustic session from Redbud, plus the latest from Dress Warm. Take a listen.

Dress Warm Share Unfamiliar Features

Feels like Austin outfit Dress Warm are really hitting their stride, with a great EP dropping last November, and now a brand new one slated for next week. So, here we are with a great new single, which immediately catches your ear with its light guitar stabs and steadied drum beat kicking off things. When the vocals hit, they take on that sort of atmospheric warmth that’s been popularized with the resurgence of great guitar pop (though I always associate it with early emo/slowcore). But, where I think I fell in love with this track was its change near the 1 minute mark; it turns a little brightness out of the track (as if it needed more), but then suddenly slows all the way down for a nice little midtrack instrumental jam. Tons of movement here, again, the band at peak form. Stepping Away is out next Friday, May 5th.

Last Week’s Jams (4.17 – 4.20)

If there is one song I want you to listen to it has to be the absolute smash hit from Maine’s Big Blood; I think I’ve listened to that track 1000 times since I’ve heard it, if not more. Of course, there’s other great tunes to enjoy as well, like that pop ditty from Tough Age, or Rama Lama’s new signing, Echo Ladies. Plus, Austin held its own again with new stuff from Dress Warm and RF Shannon. And, if you’re looking for something with some legs, there’s at least a handful of tunes stretching beyond the 4 minute mark, so indulge as you must.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (10.3 – 10.7)

Lots of coverage running around last week, and with ACL in town, there was some coverage of shows and what not. We ended the week throwing up some streams of our favorite LPs that dropped too. But, ultimately, you came here for the tunes, and we had lots of them. Personally, I loved new stuff from I Was a King, Heather Trost and Field School, not to mention the little twist in expectations thrown in by the latest from Smashing Times. RayRay loved some rockers from S.C.A.B and Fluung, and they’ve all been conveniently added for your listening pleasure below. Browse, and head back and see what we had to say if you’re so inclined.

Dress Warm Share Take a Hint Single

Austin’s Dress Warm have been getting a lot of love around here lately, and I think this new single illustrates how much promise the band has going forward. Opening up with a heavy brand of guitar pop, there’s an immediate buoyancy to the tune, giving you a similar bounce in your own step. In that playfulness, you find the vocals hopping along too, bringing in a melodic softness to the light churn of the guitars, blanketing the song in this rewarding layer of charm that should resonate with nearly any listener. Stoked to hear more of what’s coming from the group!

Last Week’s Jams, Today (9.19 – 9.23)

Happy Monday! Man, we covered a ton of ground last week, and I’m super stoked with the songs we squeezed into this playlist…and for the first time all of them are available on one streaming platform. That either means my tastes have gotten super basic, or those DSPs have taken over! Either way, there were a bunch of songs to love last week. I’m smitten with this new track from Kindsight, and I can’t stop playing that Cozy Slippers tune, so that’s a fun place for you to start. We get bonuses as members of Math and Physics Clubs have created two new bands, both with great new singles: Field School and Model Shop. Just a bunch of great jams to get your morning off on the right track.

Dress Warm Share New Single

Austin’s Dress Warm have a familiar sound, which should hopefully endear them to the locals, and you as well. They’re crafting these bedroom guitar pop songs, reminiscent of acts like Good Morning or Hovvdy; they even have some overlapping layers and a solo that remind me of Real Estate. So you’ve got these great little touchstones that can easily let you drift towards the weekend, riding atop the melodic wave they’ve crafted here for you. This is the sort of Friday tune that just makes you feel good, so press play again and again until your mood settles.
