Last Week’s Jams, Today (6.27 – 7.1)

Our coverage last week was pretty steady, and we got to hear some great new stuff…so here we are with our weekly recap to start off your post holiday blues at work. We got some great ATH favorites offering up new stuff, with Winter and Phantom Handshakes getting fresh tunes out there. We also ran some great footage from Constant Follower of their performance atop a monument in Scotland, which I highly suggest you getting into, so I threw a jam in there from that performance. Lot of great stuff, with over an hour of jams to whet your whistle this morning.

Dungen Announce En Ar For Mycket Och Tusen Aldrig Nog

It’s crazy to think that I’ve been listening to Dungen for almost 20 years now, and as they’ve progressed, dare I say, they’ve aged like a fine wine. They’re first album in 7 years is on the way, and it still employs the psychedelic tendencies they’ve always been working with, particularly when the solo lets out a little heavy jam. But, the rhythm section has more of a groove these days, almost like they’re taking something from the acid-house days in the Uk and spinning it with modern psych; it really takes a tired sound (for me anyways) and ramps it up into something totally special and diverse. En Ar For Mycket Och Tusen Aldrig Nogwill drop on October 7th via Mexican Summer, which is techinically Kemado, where I heard about the band so long ago!

Experimental Pop from Kiki Pau

kikipau_webresYou know about my adoration for all things Finnish right? Well, Kiki Pau win right off the bat, but also because they’re associated with both Dungen and Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records. If you’ve got five minutes, and I know that you do, you need to sit down, preferably somewhere quiet.  There’s multiple movements within this song, and there’s no way you can really put some generic label upon the track–that’s probably a good thing.  I like the light-hearted vibe entering in around the 3 minute mark.  This tune and others appears on the group’s Pines LP, which was just released today!
