Give the Donkeys Some Love

donkWhen I was listening to this new track it dawned on me (via the player count) that not enough people were listening to this brand new single. It’s kind of a bummer because I don’t feel like there are too many bands out there rocking this blend of indie folk and sunny pop quite the way these guys do. Sure, you might not hear anything perfectly exciting or new, but you should definitely realize that this sort of musical execution doesn’t come across every day. I’m begging you to take a listen to this song, let it sink in, and love on the Donkeys. They’ve got a new mini-LP coming your way via Easy Sound Recordings in the first part of 2016.

Sam Cohen Is Groovy

unnamed-2Man. I don’t know anything Sam Cohen doesn’t lay his hands on that I don’t enjoy.  I was a fan of Apollo Sunshine and an even bigger fan of Yellowbirds, so his new work under his given name is just what I needed this week.  On this single, he’s begging you to typify his music; there’s some crunchier bits of Americana, but I can also hear the deranged recording process of Mr. Coyne. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that his debut effort under this moniker, Cool It, is being released by Easy Sound Recording; they’ve quickly touched a nerve in my listening rotation.  Look for the LP on April 28th.

Pop Tune from Sam Cohen

sammyI’ve admired the work of Sam Cohen, be it with Apollo Sunshine or Yellowbirds, but he’s stepping out on his own entirely here.  His new work seems to draw in influences from various pop spectrums, using electronic production touches you might find in a Wayne Coyne run world, whilst still making a slight nod to the prettier side of psychedelia.  His debut album, under his own name at least, is soon to be released by Easy Sound; it’s called Cool It, which definitely fits into the stylish work he offers up here.

Rodrigo Amarante Brings Friends on New Single

rodThrough his work over the last several years Rodrigo Amarante has amassed a pretty solid group of friends.  On his latest single, “Tardei,” he brings friend Fab Moretti, Devendra Banhart and Adam Green into the fold.  While you don’t have to have cool friends to write a great song, it’s a statement that reflects just how well-respected Amarante has become, or has always been.  Those friends all provide a nice little choir to quietly back Rodrigo here.  It’s just another reason to expect wonderful things when you hear his album, Cavalo, which is slated for a May 6th release.
