Holodeck Announces VVV Collection

Clearly Holodeck had a banner year last year with all they deserved hype around Survive, but they’ve been fostering incredible electronic music here in Austin for some time, much like producer VVV. Throughout the last few years he’s released several EPs and tracks specializing in his thought provoking intelligent dance music, and Why El Paso Sky is a collection of b-sides and rarities in hopes your ears will pay closer attention as he preps more tunes for you in 2017. Settle into the cold dreary morning that is today with this tune, and grab it from Holodeck on March 10th.

Nice Electronica From Brodet

13307337_583887571787361_4607132715974937850_nMany of you know that songs such as this one from Brodet aren’t usually my bag, but sometimes the right song comes along and I’m swayed. This one is called “Ultra Friend” and is a sort of murkey and dark bit of pop music. Think bands like The Knife or Fever Ray and you’d be pretty close to the sounds created here. My apologies to the band, my computer won’t let my type or copy an umlaut for some reason….

Expect a new EP from Brodet in September.

More From Odonis Odonis

odonisodonisMan Odonis Odonis has picked up some heavy coverage on ATH over the years and I consider most of our writers and contributors as fans. With that said, this new track from the band features a bit of a different direction than what we’ve grown accustomed to. Sure the heavy sound is still apparent, but damn if the guys haven’t added in some crazy electronic elements similar to a band like Cold Cave or even NIN. Paired with their old flare for heavy rockers, this new electronic element is creating something truly powerful and downright badass. I’m on board for more of this.

New album Post Plague will hit stores on June 17th via Felte Records.

Pleased to Meet You: Gibberish

gibberishI miss the old days where I felt like the music that Animal Collective was creating was accessible; it bordered on pushing boundaries while still remaining sensitive to pop lovers. Lucky for me I just discovered Gibberish, a California duo. There’s an electronic element, but it turns on the swirling melody that aims for the lofty heights of pop dreaminess. This single just hit the Internet, and with it, I’m hooked on the sound. I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the same, possibly leaving you clamoring for more, so stay tuned to these pages.

Electronic Hit from Howard

dudesThis brand new track from Howard has some interesting history, as does the construction of their Please Recycle EP. They’ve taken bits and pieces of their debut album, and spun them into completely new tracks. I love some of the work in this newest tune, particularly some of the beats that hit hard and nod towards earlier electronic music. Vocals are sparse, but they serve as another layer, rather than a key focal point to the band’s song. Look for their new EP on March 25th via Fashion People…then go back and revisit their album Religion to see if you can hear where it all comes from.

ATX Spotlight: Slow Pulse from High Church

12509726_1041479649238309_9059295947368137274_nI found this tune from High Church floating around the Austin Internet yesterday, and was quite intrigued upon listening. There’s an electronic pulse that takes the song forward, moving slowly in the dark. But, in order to grab the listener, there’s a light vocal resting on top, which is reinforced by some vocal samples to boot. Just another act to keep an eye on as Austin’s electronic underground blossoms far from the spotlight. Expect a tape featuring this track in April.

Dance Hit from High Functioning Flesh

humanThe last few months I’ve definitely found myself gravitating towards some electronic tunes. Sometimes they’re of the experimental sort, and other times they’re like this new track from High Functioning Flesh, getting me ready for bedroom dancing. The vocals here are definitely dark, almost sterile, but it’s perfectly matched by the rhythmic vibe being let go with the electronic work. It’s a feeling the band are just beginning to explore within their own musical confines, which will hopefully play out on the duo’s new Human Remains 7″; you’ll be able to grab it from Dais Records on February 26th.

Brothertiger Should Brighten Your Day

Brothertiger

John Jagos and his project known as Brothertiger has picked up some positive praise on ATH over the years, and I’ve grown to admire the music despite my typical avoidance of the electronic genre.  My admiration grows even more today with this enchanting new track “Out of Touch”.  I’m fascinated with the way Jagos can create a beautiful pop song here, and though it might be labeled synth or electronic, it’s truly just a great pop song.  Enjoy.

You can pick up Out of Touch on December 4th.

Electro Jam From Sykoya

12038325_1103412179682543_134919415656685836_nMan it seems like this time of year is super slow with quality new music so I tend to get overly excited when something interesting comes my way.  My exciting find for today comes from a brand new group out of the UK called Sykoya.  The track we have to share with you today is entitled “Closer” and features some enticing, darker, electronic style pop themes.  Think a band like Phantogram mixed with say Chelsea Wolfe or even Beach House.  Some bold names thrown out there I know, but after a few listens, I’m sure you’ll see what I mean.

These up and comers will drop Here during the early part of 2016.

GEMS Return With Another Hit

untitledA quick search for L.A. band GEMS on ATH will return many posts from just about every writer in our team.  Clearly such a show of affection for a band should tell you to expect a post and some love every time the group shares a new track.  Today I’m pleased to be bringing new song “Soak”, which is surely another stellar tune to add to the band’s repertoire.  We have yet again been treated to a dark, electro-pop hit sure to make some year end lists.  Play.  End.  Play again.

Gems will release Kill the One You Love on October 30th via Carpark Records.
