Last week was one of those weeks where I wanted to write about all the songs; Ryan crushed it with tons of SXSW interviews, letting you get to know the likes of Best Move, Coyle Girelli, No Swoon and more. So, we’ve got to go back and give you a quick list of all the jams, and there were tons! You had new stuff from Austinites Friday Boys, Bright Light Social Hour and Wiretree, then Neutrals and Mick Love made my weekend with hits at the end of the week. Ex Void Share No Other Way

You’ve got to imagine a band featuring members of Joanna Gruesome is going to have a lot of pressure to live up to their former name, and this new single seems to be the one that cements Ex Void as their own powerful force. As the song unfolds, it offers up a relaxed bit of casual indie rock, light jangles, but mostly just a burning fuzz of guitar work. For me, it was the chorus that really hits home, as I love the way the vocals rise and fall in tone, crashing into you with an emphatic punch that burrows into your mind. They’ll be dropping their Bigger Than Before LP in our laps on March 25th via Don Giovanni Records.

Everyone! Meet Chris from Young Scum.

2019 for me was one of those years where when its all said and done you wonder what did I really do or achieve this year? So much happened its hard to process it all at the end of December. Kind of like… making an end-of-year list and trying to remember everything you liked and listened to! It was an amazing year for music and my list was way bigger than this but I narrowed it down to my top 15 songs.

Loved This Ex Void Tune

Out of the ashes of Joanna Gruesome rises the phoenix, and that phoenix is Ex-Void. They spend the first minute rocking like they picked up exactly where they left off, blending heavier guitar tendencies with pop sensibility. But, once they hit that minute, the group lets the poppier aspect take residence in the tune. The chorus is definitely a winner, featuring matching female/male harmonies and twinkling guitar chords. This track is the lead number off their new S/T single, aiming for release on May 11th via Don Giovanni.
