Linear Downfall Experiment…with Film?

linearYou might not be wholly aware of Linear Downfall, but in my search for things a little left of the dial, I felt like this should be up every listener’s alley. First, musically, the Nashville act have this weird combination of modern psychedelic blended with the experimental aspects of Black Moth Super Rainbow; there’s a propulsive pulse, an oddity, yet also an underlying song construction that encroaches upon the comfort zone of the audience. They’re in the midst of preparing you all for their new LP, Sufferland, but don’t think they’re just resting on their laurels with the every day release of a record …they’ll be releasing a feature film to accompany it. You can watch the trailer for the video HERE. Look for all that you can enjoy (and more) from the group when the record comes out on November 6th.

Sinkane Gives Us Another Hit

DSC02918_zpsbb8fd4feExperimental pop artist Sinkane has long been a personal favorite of mine ever since he split out on his own after working for countless indie acts in the studio.  Though he was a bit quiet for awhile, new music has been dropping left and right this summer.  I’ve yet to share any of that material with you for whatever reason, but today let’s take a second to jam to this new track “New Name”.  As with many songs by Sinkane, you’re going to get some experimental pop music with a heavy focus on the almost tribal rhythm section.  His prior work with Yeasayer clearly comes through a little bit here too and I have no issue with that.

Pick up new album, Mean Love, on September 2nd via DFA Records.

New Slow Rocker From Woodsman

Everyone is suffering through their ACL hangover currently and the music world will surely slow down a bit over the next few days.  This new tune “Sonic Tomb” from Woodsman is exactly the kind of song that fits that mood we’re all in.  It’s a slow and methodical burner of a jam that’s an all instrumental, contemplative piece of work.  I digs it.

Woodsman are apparently currently at work on their 3rd LP with no set release date just yet.  This tune is said to be just a one and done single that may or may not make it onto the upcoming album.
