Straight Rock From Washer

If you hit play below and begin reading these words, you will likely finish the song before you finish reading the post. Yes this new singled called “Super Pop” from Brooklyn based duo Washer is a short and sweet rock n roll song urging you to turn up the volume. It’s a little old school garage rocker with some nice elements of an updated rock sound to give it a solid edge. I’ve already played it three time while writing this post.

Washer is releasing a new split 7″ EP with Bethlehem Steel due out on November 30th via Exploding in Sound Records.

Warped Pop from Soft Fangs

softI’ve always loved singer-songwriter tunes, but I hold a special place in my heart for the sort that seems to take on the oddity of the world, distorting the genre into something much different. Names like Coma Cinema and Liam Betson come to mind most recently, and now I’m ready to add Soft Fangs to that list. Of course, the warped aspect is reserved for the opening choruswhile a pop explosion fills outthe space that follows, closing the track towards the end. His new album The Light will be out on March 18th via Disposable America and Exploding in Sound Records.

Can’t Resist This Washer Track

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 presetLooks like Exploding In Sound Records continue to build on their already solid roster, this time with the addition of Washer. Yesterday this tune came out on the airwaves, and I’ve been blasting it ever since. It has a nostalgic sort of Pavement feel, combined with the modern arty-indifference being popularized in NYC these days. Look for the band’s debut, Here Comes Washer, on January 22nd, just a few days after my birthday…in case you’re buying me a gift.

Swings Are Crafting Nu-Slowcore

swingsI always wanted to use “nu,” so it’s a good thing that bands like Swings are crafting music that begs for it to be used. The band, who’ve had a great week with their single, are the seeming heirs-apparent to the Bedheads of the world. They build their songs in a manner that’s gentle and soft, though the “nu” comes in as this group does build a bit more of a head of steam in their tune than some of their forefathers, though even still, they hold back before the eventual release. The DC trio will release their album Sugarwater on November 13th via Exploding in Sound Records.

New Track from Porches

porchesThe last month has been pretty kind to New York’s Porches, garnering a strong positive response with their early single.  They’re back already with the newest tune from their upcoming album, Slow Dance in the Cosmos.  For my ears, this song has two personalities, both equally enjoyably.  The first is sort of an amped up sad-bastard approach to pop structure; it slowly builds until the change up. It’s brief, but there’s a bouncing step that comes in a couple of times in the track. I like that it gives a different touch, though slight, to the song’s overall feeling. Give it a go and see what you think.  You can pick up the album on August 27th via Exploding in Sound Records.

Noisy Rocker from Ovlov

ovlovFeel like I started out the day with sort of a soft touch, musically speaking, so I want to make sure you all get your dosage of rock n’ roll as the day draws to a close.  This sprawling track opens up gently, then blasts off with noisy discordant guitar work.  Whilst Ovlov definitely exemplifies a louder edge, there’s still an element of accessibility that breaks through with the delivery of the vocals. After working hard for several years, the band is finally ready to unleash Am, their debut album; it will be out on July 2nd via Exploding in Sound Records.
