Pure Pop from Diet Cig

overeasyWe started out the morning with some heavier sounds, so let’s flip that over and visit the pop spectrum, albeit for a moment.  This track from Diet Cig made it’s way to the world yesterday, and I’m jumping on board with the band’s catchy new song “Scene Sick.”  The tune starts off well-enough, with a light ditty making its way to your eardrums, but the finest moments, in my eyes, are in the latter part of the song when guitars are turned up and the hooks sink their teeth into you.  The group’s Over Easy EP will be available at the end of February courtesy of Father Daughter Records.

New Tune from Happy Diving

happygilmoreWe’re drawing nearer to the release of the new album from Happy Diving, and their new single is really keeping me going today.  It’s got an old school feel to it, in regards to guitar pop, which reminds me of a more rocking blend of what Austin’s the Impossibles were trying to do in their later days.  Sure, there’s an ode to Weezer in that and  an innocence in the lyrical content, but wait until the song’s screeching guitars feedback into your ears, crashing down through your speakers; it’s a special bit for your listening pleasure today.  Big World is released on October 21st via Father Daughter Records.

Fuzzy Rocker from Happy Diving

bigworldWhile we’re all getting our guitar rock on, we tend to forget that the style’s always sort of been there, just waiting for us to get our jam back on.  I feel like the dude’s in Happy Diving were probably always into it, always hoping their friends would hear their songs and get tossed back into the golden age of guitar jams.  Their latest single is full of solos and feedback, yet still it’s all about turning your amps up and having a blast with your friends.  This track will be featured on the band’s new album, Big World, which will be released by Father Daughter Records on October 21st.

Even More From Rivergazer

67c5a194-0650-4165-8b15-175d7c8415e0

Rivergazer is a band that recently signed to Father Daughter Records and have been pushing hard to promote their upcoming album on the label.  No we’ve already shared with you two songs from the upcoming effort that were both fairly poppy and fun.  Today the band has taken another bit of a left turn sound wise with this new single “Lonely”.  It’s more of a singer songwriter themed tune with some bits of atmospheric noise in the background and an entracing guitar throughout.  If you put all of these singles together, it looks like we’re going to get an eclectic and mesmerizing LP.

Pick up new album Random Nostalgia on August 12th.  I promise it’s going to be worth your time.

Another Tune from Rivergazer

rivergazedA few weeks ago we brought you news that our friends at Father Daughter Records had signed on to release the new album from Rivergazer.  Their first single was spirited and quite playful.  Today we get a different look at the band, as they smooth things out for a more stretched out sound, one revolving around the band’s musicianship as opposed to infinite hooks.  There’s a bit of an organ playing in the background, which is a nice touch that always does it for me.  You’ll be able to pick Random Nostalgia from the label on August 12th.

Rivergazer Signs with Father/Ddaughter Records

riverOur friends over at Father Daughter Records are building themselves quite an incredible roster, and they’ve just added another act you’ll want to keep watch on in the future. Rivergazer is the full band version of songwriter Kevin Farrant’s vision; it’s pop music at its simplest, which is often hard to pull of successfully. This short little number rolls in with a bit of bounce from the keys, and the vocals pushed way up in the mix.  If you’re looking for melodious pop music then you need look no further than Random Nostalgia, which has a street date of August 12th from FDR.

Cocktails Rock Another Hit

cocksThere’s got to be something going on out on the West Coast, especially in the Bay area.  They’ve got the garage rock and power-pop scenes locked down, and Cocktails is another one of those acts that’s doing things right.  The riffs within this track are perfect for turning up your stereo really loud, but the song still holds onto it’s pop attitude with the way in which the vocals are delivered.  You’ll be able to grab their newest release, Adult Life,  on June 17th from Father Daughter Records.

Fresh Jams from Cocktails

artworks-000076609654-3ntc1m-t500x500Ah. The great power of good old rock and roll.  Last night this track from Cocktails came into my inbox, and I’ve been rocking out to it ever since.  They’ve just wrapped up their new album, Adult Love, prepping it for a June 17th release date via our friends at Father Daughter Records.  The San Fran band recorded this gem with Rob Wood, who works in Warm Soda, so it’s no surprise that this is power-pop of the best sort.  You’ll find a solid melody working its way throughout the track, and enough energy to help you make it through the next hour as you continuously press repeat.  Let’s all rejoice in classic pop rock sounds!

Never Young Bring Punk Rock

neveryoungLast year was a banner year for the folks over at Father Daughter Records, and it looks like they aim to make 2014 just as good, if not better. They’ve got several albums already slated for release, but the one I’m most excited for is this new record from Never Young.  For the first two minutes of this song, the band blasts through at a furious pace, only stopping momentarily after the 2 minute mark to show they’ve still got a little bit of a pop bone in their blood.  Their debut, Master Copy, will be available digitally and on cassette from the label starting on May 6th. You’ve been warned.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Happy Diving

happySanFrancisco’s Happy Diving dwell in the realms of catchy guitar pop.  At times it’s completely noisy, but other times it’s filled with well crafted melodies that allow for maximum emotional involvment from listeners.  Their s/t EP for Father Daughter Records was a short blast of fun, and I expect their shows during SXSW to be filled with that same sense of revelry.  We caught up with Matt Berry from the group to grab a quick interview.
