I love to wrap up the year later than most, mostly because my real job always has me swimming against the current. But, nonetheless, I’ve got a solid list of the records I loved this year…and you’ll notice a lot of the same stuff as my peers, with maybe a few tweaks here and there to throw my own flare into it. Not really sure how to write an intro into something that seems so opinion-based, so here’s the list of records you should already have purchased if you come to this site frequently!

Another year is coming to a close and as we try to survive the ensuing insanity of 2025, it’s always fun to take a look back on the year that was. At this point in our existence, I can’t say any of us here at ATH put all that much stock into posturing and arbitrary year end lists, but again, I can appreciate the reflection. I am the lucky one who gets to kick off this nonsense with a year end playlists featuring a bunch of songs I found myself enjoying in 2024. Hopefully you might just find some gems you didn’t know about or something you forgot about. Though I think we ARE Brat in mindset, we are not Brat in musical tastes. Did I do that right? Rock n’ Recipes: The Ladybug Transistor (Sasha Bell)

Okay, so we didn’t get the whole of the Ladybug Transistor, but we thought it was important to get a note from someone involved in the group now that their legendary LP, The Albemarle Sound is being reissued. We were fortunate to reach out to HHBTM, the label for the reissue, and they got us in touch with Sasha Bell. We talked about looking back on the record, plus the role of food in her life, as well as a recipe for Chocolate Chestnut Terrine. Thanks to Mike Turner for setting this up, and for Sasha for her time. If you’re fortunate, the band have a slate of dates across the US starting this Wednesday, so hope you’re lucky enough to catch their sets (dates posted below, and on their Bandcamp Page)!

Levitation Interviews: Hello Mary

Levitation Festival kicks off on Thursday here in Austin with a great lineup of bands coming into town for shows going down all over downtown. It should be another good time to catch up with some old palls while hopping between venues near and around Red River. Today now marks just one short week away from Levitation Festival kicking off in downtown Austin on Halloween night and running through the weekend. We rather enjoy these quick snapshots of bands coming into town and we hope you also appreciate the exposure to artists you maybe weren’t aware of, or didn’t know so much about. Levitation Interviews: Pissed Jeans

Wow, hard to believe that we are already about to roll into November and it is once again time for Levitation Festival in Austin. Now this crew stands with the opinion that this is the best fest in town as we love the peeps who put it on, dig the venues, and generally vibe with the bands on the bill. This year is no different as our hype builds and things look to set off in downtown next week. We would of course fail at life if we didn’t try to prep you in some way so a few Levitation “Getting to Know You” interviews seems like a fitting kick off. Also more fitting, is getting to jumpstart this thing with one of my top bands of the entire weekend – Pissed Jeans. Hit the jump for band insights, tunes and set times.

If you haven’t been following our site over the last few months, you might have missed all the great singles that Blood dropped before releasing their excellent Loving You Backwards LP this past Friday. We’re big fans, and were bummed when they left our city to venture off to greener pastures, but it seems to have worked out well for the music. Rock N’ Recipes: Chime School

A little over a month ago, his project released their new album, Fool’s Mate, so we reached out to Ray to talk about influences, the recording process and more.
