Floating Room Shares Freak Show

Maya Stoner is hitting all the right notes for me with her new set of songs for the Tired and True EP. I thought the choice to kind of have a brief lead-in set the song up perfectly for this single, not to mention that chorus has everything you need for a hit. It has this effortless swagger and cool, almost giving the song an uplifting bounce. As the track goes down Stoner doesn’t shy away from throwing a little heavy jam in there, all before bringing back the intoxicating chorus, this time featuring a little guitar solo. Floating Room will drop the new EP on October 30th.

Floating Room Share Held Open Door

At this point, I’ve heard several tunes from the forthcoming Floating Room EP, and damned if its not a wonderful listen; I think the first single should be enough to whet your appetite. At first, it has this bold sort of angular approach, akin to some of the work that Cate Le Bon’s been doing…kind of off-kilter pop. But, what makes it the winner of the day is how quickly it moves into a fuzzy riff-drivern pop rock vibe; it’s almost like Maya Stoner just wanted to create her own space where Le Bon and Alvvays held equal import to the songwriting process…truly a special listen, if you haven’t gone here already. Tried and True is out October 30th.

Floating Room Announce New LP

It just takes a moment before you find yourself caught up in the swirling shoegaze tornado of Floating Room‘s new single. But, don’t get caught up in that musical cyclone, as the band are determined to craft a sensible pop undertone, primarily done through the vocal performance. The accompanying video takes the instrumental middling ground and turn them into a matching visual concept, moving the landscape images in step with the musical goings-on. False Baptism will be released by Good Cheer Records on June 22nd.

Melancholy Number from Floating Room

floatingromIt would be easy to look at “sad god” and immediately acknowledge that Floating Room will be bringinga gloomy offering. But, the craftsmanship of the tune is what ultimately makes this number for captivating, carefully brooding and building. While the song opens carefully, almost like a bedroom folk number, the space behind is filled by a walls of guitar that slowly creep into the folds and cracks; a wall of distortion fills your ears, as does some elevated drum work that wasn’t present early on in the tune. This song will feature on the band’s new album, Sunless, which is released by Good Cheer Records on November 11th.
