Bouncing Post Punk from UV-TV

uvtvEmotional Response is becoming one of my more reliable go-to labels. They’ve only been around for a short while, but already I’ve been turned onto new bands I wouldn’t have otherwise heard about. This time around, we’re all meeting UV-TV, some of us for the first time. Winning off the bat is the rhythm section, bouncing us into the distorted guitar before the vocals come in to sweep us pop fans away. I love this sort of stuff, as it’s walking the line between indiepop and punk rock, keeping an edge while remaining ultimately catchy. This track is off the band’s new split with Shark Toys, and it’s available now!

Show Preview: Dick Diver @ Mohawk (Tonight!)

dickdiverAre you a fan of great guitar pop? Fan of the ringing guitars coming from Australia? I know you are, which is all the reason you need to go to Mohawk tonight and check out Australia’s Dick Diver.  They’ve long been part of our favorite Aussie label, Chapter Music, and recently caught on with Trouble in Mind Records here in the States…so if you’re one of those folks that assigns worth to labels, then you can’t get better than that.  They’ll be touring behind the release of Melbourne, Florida, which is filled with excellent pop songs throughout, illustrating a huge step up in sound from Calendar Days. Also, they’ll be joined by Austin’s Jonly Bonly, who we’ve fawned over enough on these here pages.

Enjoy This Tune From Wake Up

wake up 1

I have a strong feeling that you’re thoroughly going to enjoy this new tune called “Forever Home” brought to us by up and coming Florida band Wake Up.  The swirling guitars and hurried feel to the garage rock inspired song could easily remind one of fellow Floridians Surfer Blood (who they happen to be on tour with).  It’s a fun pop rock tune.

This track appears on new 7″ Forever Home out on March 11th via Decades Records.

New Music From Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood

Well it’s official, Surfer Blood are finally about ready to release their new album to the masses and have some new tunes to appease the fans in the mean time.  So the band’s first taste of new material from the album comes in the form of this new track “Weird Shapes”.  It’s certainly a different type of sound from the band and I’m not sure I can quite put my finger on it yet.  You can  definitely hear a slicker production quality from the band similar to The Strokes progression to First Impressions of Earth which is sure a result of signing on to the huge Warner label.  Let us know your thoughts.

Sprawling Beauty from Day Joy

Part of me wishes it would one day get cold in Austin, that way I could really delve into some of the music that seems perfectly fitting for this time of year.  On the newest gem from Day Joy, you can really get lost in the layered textures, emotionally pulling you in with touches of string arrangements.  Even the echo of pre-recorded sounds is somewhat haunting, yet the effortless harmonies inherent in the song seem like they’d fit right in if one was to be sitting fireside.  It’s such a joy to discover bands that really work to hone their craftsmanship.  You can find this tune on Go to Sleep, Mess–it comes out on February 12th via Small Plate Records.

New Gem from Isle

I was doing some Internet browsing last night, as it has been rather a slow week for new music creeping up, and I came upon this gem run the other day on IGIF.  This tune comes from Flordians, Isle, who’ve crafted this spectacular dream pop gem that’s really won me over.  The only thing sad about this tune is that its the only one the group have available at the moment, but if they’re taking their time to craft majestic slow pop tunes like the one featured below, then I’ll wait patiently for more special goodness.

Catchy Hooks from Cassolette

I have a feeling that today’s going to be sort of a light-hearted day, at least to start out the morning music run.  I stumbled upon Cassolette this past weekend while visiting Anorak, who just put out the group’s latest Annie 7″, which is absolutely delightful.  The Florida sextet isn’t breaking new ground, they’re just executing pure indie pop in marvelous fashion.  I dare you to listen to this track and not tap your feet and not let a grin creep up on your face; it absolutely cannot and will not happen. I don’t even want to go on about this song, I just want you to listen and love.

New Tunes from Awesome New Republic

awesomenewrepublicKnowing very little about Awesome New Republic, I have to admit, I’m going to be scouring the Internet for all the latest on this group.  Their song, “Florida,” an homage of sorts to their home state has been kicking around in my head all day long, so I figured I should share it with you. According to the kids over at Stereogum, the EP from which this song comes, Rational Geographic II, is up for free on the group’s web site.
