Last Week’s Jams (9.15 – 9.19)

ATH got her groove back! Okay, maybe not entirely, but feel like we’ve gotten some solid coverage this week, bringing you some stuff that the other hit promoters might have missed. I wanted to start the playlist off this week with the new single from Massage, as that track made me rush out and count my quarters to grab a copy. RayRay reminded us that Shy Boys are still a force to be reckoned with, while B.Gray is out there encouraging those remaining tickets for Levitation to get picked up. Otherwise, we’re a little all over the place, stylistically, moving between the post-punk of Optic Sink and electronica of Sam Prekop to the quiet beauty of Greg Jamie; there’s a little something for everyone if you click play below!

Flypaper Share On Your Mind

We’ve obviously been real high on the work of Rory Sear and his project, Flypaper, with both RayRay and myself extensively covering his work since the debut EP a couple of years ago. But now, on the horizon is the newest installment from the songwriter, with a sneak peek via PNK SLM waiting for you below. Instantly, the folk inclinations are there, but I love the approach and its clarity, allowing Sear’s voice to sparkle and the guitars to sort of reverberate. This works in contrast with a lot of the studio magic folks are using, so it offers up this purity that I haven’t seen a lot of lately. If you dig, like we do, Forget the Rush is out on November 7th.

Last Week’s Jams (8.18 – 8.22)

We have to own up to riding the struggle bus last week; I’ve been back at school, but the kids were finally in my classroom, so didn’t quite get to as much of the jams as I normally would. But, even as I adapted a new routine, found some real joy in the week’s music, though I know there was tons more out there. We got some solid Austin love with fresh Jane Leo and Rad Gnar, encompassing both sides of the Austin area scene. RayRay crushed it with a premiere for new Living Hour track, so be sure to swing by that jam. Fans of my indiepop coverage will want to be be sure you get your ears on new Tullycraft, Love Burns and Massage, all worthy of some extra listens. Sneak in and enjoy a little dose of new jams. And B.gray threw out some news on the ACL Night Shows, if that’s of interest, dig into the site!

Flypaper Back With A Gem

Rory Sear’s new solo project under the moniker flypaper came onto our radar in the spring of last year with the release of his debut EP Other Orbit. Well now Sear is back again this year with his much anticipated debut full length called Forget the Rush, which of course comes with new tunes to enjoy. This new joint “Oh Well,” is what I would call a true gem in the indie folk or indie songwriter genre. It shows this tuned in knack for crafting songs with personal lyrics and expertly timed hints of pop undertones. Lovely.

You can pre-order your copy of Forget the Rush now. It’s out on November 7th via PNKSLM records.

Last Week’s Jams (5.6 – 5.10)

What a wild and crazy week that was. Tons of music, and tons of great albums. We suggested you listen to the latest LPs from Lunchbox, Amy O, Gregor and Stephen’s Shore, among others…so go back and revisit those records if you’re into full-length listens. But, if not, some of our favorite acts popped up after a bit of an absence; there was new stuff from both Quivers and Emma Russack, so the Aussie contingent was representing with new music. This My Best Unbeaten Brother track that opens up the playlist is a ripper, but don’t you dare skip beyond new Yea-Ming or Cats of Transnistria. Just a bunch of great jams for you to enjoy, so just get right to it!

Friday Album Streams: Amy O, Stephen’s Shore, Grego + More

Friday’s are a great day to kick back and absorb the new music that’s coming out, with a definite bonus for those of you who follow our site as there are new releases from some of our favorite artists. Amy O has an excellent record hitting today, plus you get the elegant sounds of Gregor if you’re looking for that immersive pop experience. Personally, I’m stoked on this new Stephen’s Shore EP from Meritorio Records, and I know RayRay is looking for that new Dehd LP! Stream them all below and have a great Friday!

Last Week’s Jams (4.8 – 4.12)

Apparently it’s that time of year when I just can’t help myself; I’m going full-time it seems, as we ran 28 brand new tracks this last week, plus some nods to albums we liked that dropped on Friday. We got some fresh premiere activity from the Wesleys and Max Blansjaar, then there were some recent favorites dropping in new stuff like Lightheaded, Neutrals and Autocamper. Me personally, I loved the new Gregor single, and that new CBVB plays into similar territory. This collection of songs, like my own catalog, is pretty random, though we always tend to aim for left of the left of the dial. Stream on.

Flypaper Share Separate Nothing

You may recognize Rory Sear from his time in Beachtape, but as of late he’s been focused on his new project Flypaper. During the pandemic, he found his way with an acoustic guitar, spending more time working on the simplicity in his own songwriting, with a nod to folks like Nick Drake and Elliott Smith. Here, on the latest single, you get drawn in by the intimacy; it’s not quite a Smith-esque whisper, but you certainly feel like you’ve been brought into Sear’s secret world. Then, the song drops in and there’s an eruption of pop, pushing drums and piano and soloing guitar lines to really bulk up the track’s flavor. If you’re looking for simplicity executed well, then perhaps you need to checkout Another Orbit EP, which drops May 10th via PNKSLM.

Flypaper Shares Old Friend Video

You might recognize Rory Sear for his work on Brighton’s Beachtape, but at the moment, he’s flying solo under the moniker Flypaper. The latest single embraces this solitude, both in the song’s emotive qualities and the visual aesthetics of the video. Honestly, it gives off those early Hovvdy vibes to me, when things felt quiet and hushed, but you could imagine the live set taking on more power as the emotions swell. Listen to the snap of the drums that sets off a wave of emotion when the chorus hits; you’ll surely understand exactly what I’m getting at on my end. The new Other Orbit EP will be out on in May via PNKSLM.
