Stream New EP From Blaenavon

10514738_720240444695657_404149877485594319_nOnly last week I shared with you a new favorite discovery of mine with a song by a U.K. band called Blaenavon.  After my initial infatuation with the sounds I was hearing, I couldn’t wait to hear even more from the band’s upcoming EP.  Well today is a treat for anyone who also took a liking to the band as I have a full stream of the group’s new EP Miss World.  You can check that out below and also order a physical copy by heading to Transgressive Records (out Oct. 30th).  I expect these guys to blow up ASAP.

ATX Spotlight: Sleep Good/Austin Leonard Jones

a2921849332_16We’ve always been a fan of Will Patterson’s work and his time with Sleep Good has been no different over the last several years.  Today we are being treated to a new split EP featuring two new songs from Will & co. and two songs from fellow Austin songwriter Austin Leonard Jones.  Your Sleep Good songs on the split of course feature some great shoe gaze style pop music with a little bit of psych underlying everything.  Songs from ALJ are certainly in the singer songwriter vain, but with a little bit of quirkiness to provide some nice pop elements.

Stream the entire new split bellow and of course throw the guys a few dollars on bandcamp if you dig.

Lo-Fi Pop from Jackson Scott

tumblr_inline_mhpmrvFGQc1qz4rgpDon’t you love it when there’s a shroud of mystery swirling around a musician and his work? Sure, it adds intrigue, but it also seems like the artists is making a statement like “hey, you don’t need to know me, just listen to my music.”  In the case of Jackson Scott I’m completely okay with that attitude, especially considering the songs are so ridiculously good.  There’s definitely a creepy vibe going on in these lo-fi pop jams, but I can’t help but find myself completely sucked in to the songwriting. He’s currently giving away his album, Melbourne, right now, so go HERE and get lost in his world.

New Discovery: Ciro Madd

The great thing about a good long holiday weekend is that it allows for discovery, and I stumbled upon Ciro Madd by checking out the UK blog, Burning World.  The group is another one of those Brazilian acts that we might not have heard about, if we weren’t getting by with some help from our friends.  They’ve just released the wonderful Sleeping in the Rough Sea on Pug Records, which has a lo-fi pop feel at times, and other times it reminds me of the Wedding Present.  If I had a complaint, it’s that the vocals are possibly too low in the music, but they’re still decipherable, and elemental to the band’s sound.  If you’re looking for some nostalgic rock n’ roll, then you’ll want to check in on Ciro Madd, where you can grab their album for FREE.

Free Album Reworking from PS I Love You

One of the groups that we fell in love with in 2011 was PS I Love You after jamming to their Meet Me at the Muster Station album. With their quick rise to popularity, the band was traveling all around the States, which led to the recording of the Muster Sessions.  It’s an album comprised of reworkings and live recordings the group did while hitting up Daytrotter and KEXP, as well as other spots.  Basically, it’s like a collection of John Peel-esque B-sides and remixes for you to enjoy.  They’re currently giving it away free in anticipation of their new record, Death Dreams, which comes out on May 8th.  For now, you can download the FREE ALBUM, and sample the hooks the band are sure to bring with their new effort.

Great Dream Pop from The Notes

It seems we get a lot of surf-pop and dream-pop nowadays with male singers, and I’m definitely okay with that, but I don’t mind having a swinging female voice maneuver in and out of these tracks as well. The Notes, like Seapony, do a great job of doing just that, and this British bunch has just put out their brand new album, Fearless, which you can grab for FREE, if you so choose. The title track’s got a little bit of haze, a little bit of noise, and a slew of pop bubbling beneath it all. Give these guys a chance to win you over this Friday.
