Last Week’s Jams (4.29 – 5.3)

Well, I somehow managed to break the streak! This week we only have 23 songs to offer instead of the customary 28 per that last four weeks! Alas, I was sick, so were my kids, and a few of the tunes weren’t streaming. So, what did we cover? The good stuff. I was blown away and waxing nostalgic with the new Royal Headache announcement and accompanying single. It was good to see acts like Oh Boland, Neutrals and Stephen’s Shore give me my pop goodies. Plus, Austin powerhouses Urban Heat and Font were out there backing up hype with great new singles. Oh, and did you catch out great Rock n’ Recipe feature with R.E. Seraphin? Well, there’s still plenty to digest below, so enjoy yourselves!

Freedom Fry Share Gemini

As a person that pours through about 100 + songs a day, I often find groups that I take for granted, like Freedom Fry. The LA outfit haven’t failed to lighten my day, always offering these soulful pop tunes that flirt with a classic sensibility and a futuristic outlook. You can hear how they settle into the groove on this track, almost slinking their way into your consciousness. But, they do it with this sly wink that reminds me of the early Phoenix records, though never turns its back on nostalgia. You never know where they’re going, and in that, I’m always happy to lend them some extra coverage.

Last Week’s Jams (8.7 – 8.11)

Admittedly, we might have outdone ourselves last week; I’m fairly certain I’m the one to blame. Somehow, we tossed up 40 songs, though a few are unavailable in the streaming sites, so you’ve only got 38 tracks on this week’s playlist. There’s a ton of Austin stuff, with new music from Daiistar, Semihelix, Half Dream and more…obligatory A Giant Dog is in there and such. Plus, still continuously impressed by the magic that is Prewn. Oh, and Australia’s buzzing at the moment, and their music isn’t half-bad either, with new tracks from the Small Intestines and Soft Covers being considered as must listens. So, if you’ve got an hour or two to kill…go on and stream!

Get Moving With Freedom Fry

The French-American married duo Freedom Fry has long been on our radar for their danceable, indie pop gems. While pumping out tons of hits and seeing songs placed in multiple hit shows and movies, the group also released a stunning EP entitled La Soire. Now trying to close out the summer with a potential song of the season jam, Freedom Fry just released the new single “YOLO” earlier this morning. If you weren’t up and on your feet already, this jam is sure to get you moving along to the beat.

Freedom Fry Drop Brand New Track

We’re nearing the end of the week, and while we might almost be there, I need a little extra to get me over the edge, thus the need to boogie along with this new hit from Freedom Fry. The LA duo have this insane knack for fusing various styles and various decades into one playful tune after the other; this song’s got this disco-funk groove to it from the guitars, but it also employs a thick beat that could be upped in volume to really push your butt out on the dancefloor. The vocal spin near the 3 minute mark adds an extra layer of fun that guarantees you’ll want this bumping on your playlist as you ride towards Saturday.

Freedom Fry Share Corde Sensible Single

LA duo Freedom Fry are preparing the release of their newest record, their first entirely done in French. With that chance definitely comes a shift in focus, with the band drawing on some classic pop sounds from the French scene. The craft of the beats and the bounce of the piano lines has some early Air vibes; they get a big boost from the driving beat too, which guarantees a dose of energy to spin your around. In the vocals you get that dreamy touch that never seems to grow old. I’ll keep you posted with more on the album, but for now, just enjoy a nice kick in the rear to start your day.

SXSW Interview: Freedom Fry

If you thought our SXSW interviews were anywhere near over, man are you totally wrong. Nathan and I went crazy this year and sent these things out to tons of bands we admire and respect. Heck with still several days until music kicks off next week, I think we’re already over our total number of interviews from last year. Gotta hustle. Continuing our coverage today is an interview from L.A. by way of France based group Freedom Fry. Hit the jump for questions and a little tuneage as well.
