Last Week’s Jams (5.27 – 5.31)

A strange week we had last week; I blame the Memorial Day holiday for that, as it started us all off a bit slow. For whatever reason, we didn’t get a lot of fresh tunes, so I, of course, was out there digging deep to unearth some stuff you’re probably not going to find in a ton of other spots, like the new T.G. Shand or Holding Hour singles. It was good to get another single from the next the Martial Arts LP, plus our old friend Stephen popped up with his new project Shortcuts. And, as I’ve been trying to do more, there were some great records like the new Neutrals and Oh Boland LPs I wanted to nod towards too. It’s all in the playlist below.

French Cassettes Share Another Hit

These new tunes from San Francisco based outfit French Cassettes are really hitting me in all the feels this Spring and Summer. Recently the band shared a lovely piece of singer/songwriter vibes with the hit “Megabus” and now the band returns with an even more heartfelt number with this one “When You Know, You Know.” I am really loving this straight ballad direction the band is going in and I’ll definitely be picking up the new album Benzene when it drops on June 7th. That album is available for pre-order now from Tender Loving Empire.

Last Week’s Jams (4.22 – 4.26)

It’s been a strange few weeks if I’m looking at the numbers on our Last Week’s Jams; we’ve run 28 songs for the last three weeks, compiling a fun playlist that runs at 1.5 hours. Well, whatever, time’s on your side my friends. We were fortunate to premiere a couple of stellar tunes this week from the Ar-Kaics and Noelle and Deserters; one offers a crackling fire of psychedelia while the other is a bit more old school western vibes. And, there was the joyous return of Bad Moves! Of course, we also filled the pages with new stuff from Lightheaded, Laughing, Luma Fade, Lunchbox and the Laughing Chimes…you know, all the big Ls! Some Austin love as always via mentions of new records from Don’t Get Lemon and Hovvdy too. Sit back and get into Monday.

French Cassettes Share Megabus

Wow, a quick search on our site shows that is has been damn near 12 years since we last posted on San Francisco based outfit French Cassettes and it seems like high time for us to get back on the hype train. The band has really taken shape and evolved over the years, with a more purposeful and calculated approach to writing songs. Hard evidence of the evolution can be heard in this new single “Megabus” which highlights a playful, yet expert level lyricism from songwriter Lorenzo Scott Huerta. Hopefully the track can provide some mellow vibes for the rest of your day.

This trick appears on the new album from French Cassettes entitled Benzene, which is out on June 7th via Tender Loving Empire.

New Pop Jam From French Cassettes

A friend of ours just tipped us off to this up and coming band French Cassettes the other day and I’m glad he did.  The band are a sort of jangly pop type who tend to have qualities similar to Mystery Jets early stuff or even a bit of Albert Hammond Jr. here and there  It’s a little bit immature at times, but still refreshing to hear a band that can have some pick up in their step.  This tune “Radley” is being promoted as a single for the group’s recently released EP Summer Darling.  You can stream that one in it’s entirety or even download for free over on bandcamp.
