Ghost Fan Club Shares Love Bug + Drops New EP

We’ve already teased the release of Ghost Fan Club for a couple of singles, and now we offer you one final reason to invest in the group’s new EP, officially out today! Opening up your ears, you’ll find a lightness to the song’s craft, as it’s a trickling bit of guitar and whispering vocals billowing through your speakers; they add in some textured percussion and a little grooving synth line to flesh things out. Around the 1:50 mark you get a little directional change, bringing in a kind of emphatic little midtrack stomp that wiggles in some variation before settling back into the bread and butter of the band’s craft. Enjoy the single below and adventure into the depths of the EP HERE.

Last Week’s Jams (6.10 – 6.14)

Consider yourselves lucky! Three of the song’s I wrote about didn’t make DSPs yet, otherwise, you’d have a two hour playlist of joy to listen through today. Luckily, Australia was keeping it real, with new stuff from The Male Gays, Pop Filter, Kosmetika and Alluvial Nuggets all gracing the site. There was some Austin show coverage too, namely Mikky & the Doom and Adrianne Lenker, so jams from those acts get included. On the personal tip, I was really pulling for the Manners Manners and Nightshift to be big hits out there in the scene, with this new Parallel tune right behind it! There’s also some expansive jams too from the likes of Immersion and Nap Eyes, if you need a tune over 5 minutes for your life. Enjoy.

Ghost Fan Club Share Now and Then

If you sit with this new single from Ghost Fan Club, you’ll likely find yourself straddling eras between current bedroom pop and early 00s indie rock. As the Bandcamp for the project says, the songs were recording “alongside spooky spirits,” and while that may be tongue-in-cheek, there’s definitely a shadowy solemnity to the song, which gives it that familiarity you want from the perfect bedroom pop piece. But, listening closely, you can also hear the affinity for folks like Isaac Brock, particularly in the way some of the guitar notes warble and bend in your speakers; it goes nicely with the the layered vocals from the ghosts that pop up sporadically, adding emphasis to the tune. The self-titled Ghost Fan Club LP will be out on July 14th.

Last Week’s Jams (4.29 – 5.3)

Well, I somehow managed to break the streak! This week we only have 23 songs to offer instead of the customary 28 per that last four weeks! Alas, I was sick, so were my kids, and a few of the tunes weren’t streaming. So, what did we cover? The good stuff. I was blown away and waxing nostalgic with the new Royal Headache announcement and accompanying single. It was good to see acts like Oh Boland, Neutrals and Stephen’s Shore give me my pop goodies. Plus, Austin powerhouses Urban Heat and Font were out there backing up hype with great new singles. Oh, and did you catch out great Rock n’ Recipe feature with R.E. Seraphin? Well, there’s still plenty to digest below, so enjoy yourselves!

Ghost Fan Club Announces New EP

When you put on this new Ghost Fan Club single, perhaps like me, you’ll hear a bit of the ghost of Modest Mouse in their earliest stages. The guitars bend and twang in a similar fashion, though admittedly, they’re a little bit more toned down, energy-wise, in this presentation. That pacing allows the vocals to also relax, grab on to darker tones and mellower notes that ride just beneath the current of the tune. Thrown together, it all makes for a solemn listen, but one that begins to pull you within it as the track unwinds before you. They’ll release their new Ghost Fan Club EP on July 5th via Knifepunch Records.
