Last Week’s Jams (8.26 – 8.31)

Stella is getting her groove back, or at least I am. Managed to get my feet underneath me a little bit this past week, so we’ve got a pretty decent amount of tracks to represent. Threw out a couple of premieres for the homies at Feel It Records, with new No Peeling and Fan Club dropping this week. Turned around and dropped some Austin love for Skloss and Whisper too, which is always a goal. Really enjoyed my own introduction to the tragic story of Stroik, with a powerful tune you should put on your radar. Nice to see some favorites on the dial too like Sharp Pins and Frog. But man, this Happy Dust Gang tune in here is just my jam!

One More Hit From Glimmer

It seems like this might be THE year for NYC based band Glimmer, as they seem to be slow dropping hits in anticipation of their debut LP in October. Having already released the tracks “Buired,” along with Sludgy number “Sorrow Again,” and it’s like, hey now guys, you can’t be releasing all these hits in one year! Of course, they press on, building excitement again with this new single called “Slow Saturday.” For me, the best description comes straight from the band, calling it “grungegaze” mixing in the noise of legends like J&MC with more current, gazey grunge groups like Nothing or Catcher. Love this stuff.

You can now pre-order the debut LP from Glimmer entitled Get Weak directly from their bandcamp page.

Glimmer Drop Another Hit

New York based group Glimmer has been slowly releasing hit after hit over the last couple of years or so. Today we’ve been notified that a debut album is finally coming sometime this fall, which will feature this new jam “Sorrow Again.” It’s a sludgy, grungy gem of a tune and I will seriously start questioning your tastes if you don’t like or have yet to discover this band. We’ll keep you posted as deets trickle in on the new album, but in the meantime, enjoy this one.

Last Week’s Jams (2.19 – 2.23)

With a holiday squeezed in, and some craziness on my own end, we maybe didn’t cover as much as I ideally would have liked to cover. Nonetheless, there was tons of great tunes running on the site, including a premiere from 40th Parallel, plus brand spanking new music from Apollo Ghosts…which I’m still listening to right now. Rural France is back too, so we included that in our coverage, not to mention the fact that we got a hot new Daniel Romano tune included. You can never go wrong either with new Reds, Pinks and Purples or En Attendant Ana…and those are included. It’s a 45 minute collection of solid rock n’ roll, so turn it on and turn it up.

Glimmer Drop New Tune Buried

New York based band Glimmer hit me in my ear holes yesterday with this new song “Buried,” and I just had to pass it along today. I love how the song starts out super heavy with loud guitars and driving beat, but then drops well into some quieter moments. When we say something like “rising action,” this is what we mean. The track also comes with a longer, more epic B-side called “Daydream,” which is streamable over on bandcamp.

Last Week’s Jams (10.23 – 10.27)

We had a busy week here at ATH, prepping for the festival by throwing some Levitation interviews your way, but there was still tons of music to get out there. We ran some conversations with Video Age, Pachyman, Civic and Shannon and the Clams…plus, I got a Rock n’ Recipe in from the good folks at Lower Plenty. So, lots of words to read from other folks on their music. We also had fresh tunes all over the place from ATH favorites like the Umbrellas, Steven van Betten and Glimmer. Pretty busy week with tons to talk about, so be sure to browse through the site too…as there’s more than just sweet jams from last week!

Glimmer Release Fresh Single, Place in the Sun

After putting the past with his old band behind him, it’s great to see that Jeff Moore’s songwriting hasn’t changed all that much. I’ve always been a fan of the way he’s balanced rocking guitar sounds with a need for a bit of calm to run through a track’s center. With his new project, Glimmer, he’s not straying too far from that formula, although they’re brandishing an even heavier sound, echoing with atmosphere in the background. You can hear it here, but again, you get a nice little dose of melody that keeps the track tethered to your ears. Turn it up and your ears will ring, but as the song comes into focus, you’ll find yourself locked into that Jeff Moore charm. Hoping we get more from the group real soon.

Last Week’s Jams (6.19 – 6.23)

It was a pretty busy week around these parts, though on a personal level, the next two weeks are going to be a bit of a shit show. So, it was good to settle into that ride with some great new jams. New music from Colored Lights and Lola Tried got me super excited, so we’re kicking off last week’s jams right there. B. Gray shot some great photos of Love and Rockets, which you can scroll back into and find, thus their inclusion. RayRay ran a review of the latest from Elder Jack Ward, so you can get your soul fix in. I probably played it safe and close to home with new songs from Snooper, Swansea Sound and Film School, among a bunch of others. Unfortunately, the new Lewsberg tunes are streaming yet, so those aren’t here, but go back and listen, please!

Glimmer Share Brand New Single

Jeff Moore called it a day on his old band back in 2020, after years of rocking it for us. Now, he’s been focusing on a new project, Glimmer, and now they’ve got a fresh single ready to rip through your speakers (or headphones). One of the things I love about Jeff is his knack for updating those heavy riffs that dominated stereos throughout the 90s, turning them into pop-centric jams you’ll have on repeat. How so? Well, for starters, the song’s always seem to peel back in the right moments, letting the weight of the guitars subside. This allows the vocals to enter in a velvety fashion, smoothing out the harder edges to leave you with a classic pop vibe. Keep an eye out as we hope to hear more from Glimmer.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (11.8 – 11.12)

We’re here with your weekly addition of Last Week’s Jams, with a slight little spin on things this week. For starters, there were certainly some jams on our pages, so we hope you’ll revisit…may I recommend the Crabber record again? Plus, you’ve got the new hits from Slumberland Records (who had a killer week in our eyes). And, in the end, I threw in a couple of tracks from shows we were able to see last week, or the week before, just as a reminder for us when we listen to our own playlists! Listen to some songs, and have a really great week friends!
