Dreamy Perfection From Hazel English

…and it is a gem. I listened to it twice.

According to the intarwebs, this is a bonus track to a 2xEP purchase featuring previously released materials and some new things. Hazel English straddles a line between too much and not enough in every little bit of the song. You want the song to be longer, the hook to stick around, echoes linger and layers peel back, but without letting go to move on and open space for the synth flourishes and guitar sweeps and all that space between, you wouldn’t be nearly as hooked at one listen. Brilliant stuff.

Order the double EP here and those of you across the pond need to see if she is playing in your town.

Dreamy Pop From Hazel English

12002582_1498974033754457_8499868247937911734_oHazel English, out of Oakland, California, is back once again with her angelic vocals and dreamy mix of pop. She has recently announced that she is releasing an EP in the not-too-distant future, and it’s calledNever Going Home. You can find this track, “I’m Fine,” on that upcoming record, as well as a few others, and you can pre-order it from her website or Rough Trade Records. What I like about this song is the simple, yet completely entrancing brand of dream pop that you find. It’s a quiet, folksy tune, but one that will make you press repeat again and again.

Another Dreamy Gem From Hazel English

11120072_1404974219821106_1760115655601501812_oAre you in the mood for lighter than air dream pop? If so, I’ve got just the right track for you from Hazel English. “Fix” is the second overwhelmingly lush single in a row from Oakland based Hazel English, and it’s sure to make your Friday. The guitars swim around gracefully in the mix, greeting you the moment you press play on the song and mellowly jam with you the whole way through. Meanwhile, those impossibly sugary vocals are omnipresent, between the oohs and hooky chorus that chimes in with “Take me away again” you can’t hide from the sweetness of the dreamy pop. If you like this track, be sure to check out Hazel English‘s EP Never Going Home, which will be released sometime this fall and has got that summer-turned fall vibe.

New To You: Hazel English

11120072_1404974219821106_1760115655601501812_oWhen it’s summertime and this hot outside, sometimes I seek refreshing musical escape from the heat, usually in the form of breezy indie pop. Hazel English, who is currently based out of Oakland, has got the perfect antidote to the heat with “It’s Not Real.” The track is light in all the right places. The vocals have a Cults-esque sugar to them, but also soar with a bit more subtlety. The guitar and drums and synth sounds sort of mesh together in the mix for a hazy take on surf and classic indie rock, but then they separate out over varying moments of the song so you can appreciate them all. It’s a great light and airy track, one that will certainly get stuck in your head for the next few days.
