Mammoth Penguins Share Flyers Single

It should go without saying that the new LP from Mammoth Penguins is definitely high upon my list of things I’m most excited to get my hands on, and today they’ve dropped another bop right into your ears. On my two cents, I love how the group manages to bang out these heavily distorted riffs, yet wrapped them this buoyant rhythm section, creating this infectious edginess. Emma Kupa, of course, sells the hook with her typical powerful vocal performance; the track’s detailing of the challenges of that rock n’ roll lifestyle are likely relatable to anyone who’s managed to get a record recorded and hit the road; it’s not an easy life…but I’m guessing folks like Mammoth Penguins wouldn’t trade that for the world. Here is out May 3rd via Fika Recordings.

Mammoth Penguins Share Everything That I Write

It should be obvious this many years on in our site that we’re probably always going to rep Emma Kupa acts, especially if its Mammoth Penguins. Today, they’ve got a fresh single from their forthcoming Here LP, and it’s pretty much a staple track for the band in terms of their sound. They have this enthralling pattern of taking their sharp angular licks and pushing them into distortion, which always pans out in this magnificent vocal display from Emma. Here, her voice hits its peak, only to fold back into the warm melodic range. And what, you don’t like bobbing bass lines? Then don’t stop here! But, if you do, Here is out May 3rd via Fika Recordings.

Mammoth Penguins Return with New Single/Album

As an avowed Mammoth Penguins fan, I was over the moon finding this tune on the horizon for today. There’s something magical about Emma Kupa’s delivery, even when, she’s spelling out the lyrics as she does in the chorus on this note. Behind the vocals, the group consistently pump out no-frill pop rock, running through jangling-adjacent riffs and clever little interludes that allow them to set up the truest rock punch you’re going to encounter. I can totally picture myself in the crowd at an MP show, screaming along to every word Kupa tosses out; you won’t find more fun pop rock singalong tracks than what Mammoth Penguins offer. Happy to have them back after nearly five years since the excellent There’s No Fight We Can’t Both Win.; they release Here on May 3rd via Fika Recordings.

Obligatory Teenage Fanclub Post

teenagefanclubWell, you had to know this was coming, and you had to know I was going to be the one to remind you about this new Teenage Fanclub tune. It just popped up yesterday, offering that classic TF sound, bringing heavy distorted guitars into a melodious zone while the vocals carry your heart home. I’ve listened to their new album Here quite a bit lately, and I think anyone remotely interested in the finer side of guitar pop will want to get their hands on it; it’s available via Merge on September 9th.

Rejoice! New Teenage Fanclub

teenagefanclubSome bands never get old. Album after album, you devour the songs, put them on playlists and share with all your friends. For me, one of the bands I always go back to is Teenage Fanclub, and they’ve just announced their newest album in their long running career. It’s exactly what you’d expect, filled with careful power chords and great vocal melodies that carry warmth to listener’s ears. And of course, it’s a love song, but with lines like “there is pain in this world/I can see it in your eyes,” they show that their subject matter is as timeless as their songs. Look for the new effort, Here, on September 9th via Merge Records.

Electro Jam From Sykoya

12038325_1103412179682543_134919415656685836_nMan it seems like this time of year is super slow with quality new music so I tend to get overly excited when something interesting comes my way.  My exciting find for today comes from a brand new group out of the UK called Sykoya.  The track we have to share with you today is entitled “Closer” and features some enticing, darker, electronic style pop themes.  Think a band like Phantogram mixed with say Chelsea Wolfe or even Beach House.  Some bold names thrown out there I know, but after a few listens, I’m sure you’ll see what I mean.

These up and comers will drop Here during the early part of 2016.

Warm Pop from Violet Woods

violetFeeling dreamy? Let your mind float away this afternoon with the work of Violet Woods, who are set to release their eponymous album this November.  This is my favorite type of pop music; it trickles in, it’s well-crafted and there’s a warmth that makes it the perfect listening for the fall season. The pacing on the track is steady, allowing for the band to maximize their melodies, and allowing your brain to gently drift away to a happy place.  Feel like this is a perfect way to enjoy your Wednesday, so join me by listening to this UK act.
