Straight Rocker From Perfect Angel At Heaven

Clearly I have been struggling a bit getting back into the groove of things this week and I’m sure many of you can share the same sentiments. As I slowly find my footing this morning, I happened upon this nice lil jam from Indianapolis based artist Perfect Angel at Heaven over on bandcamp. It certainly reminds me of some of our hold heroes like The Thermals or Ted Leo, hence my urgency to share it with you all today. The single is part of a new EP coming from the band which is due out sometime… today? Or so says on their bandcamp page.

Unique New Track From Busman’s Holiday

unnamed-3Bloomington, Indiana has sort of become this weird new spot for up and coming indie music over the last decade or so. Though not near as prolific as say a Brooklyn or Portland, some solid bands are coming out of the area as evidenced by a group like Busman’s Holiday. The music created here is a type of indie folk music blended with some nice horns and full of chant style lyrics. Their latest single below entitled “What We Need We Know” is a perfect example of the style I’m talking about. It’s worth a listen or two.

Busman’s Holiday will release a new EP entitled Popular Cycles on October 14th via Joyful Noise.

SXSW 2015 Hip-Hop: Freddie Gibbs

freddie-gibbs-usa-flag-grungecake-thumbnailWhen Freddie Gibbs first gained attention outside of his native Gary, Indiana with his mixtape The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs, he seemed destined for stardom. Five years, a couple EPs, and an independent album later Gibbs seems to be nowhere near the stardom some expected from him. There’s no doubt that the mainstream music audience noticed him; a member of the 2010 XXL Freshman class, a highly publicized friendship and then falling out with rapper Jeezy. So, why is Gibbs making EPs with lesser known artists like Statik Selektah and Madlib? Why did he only have mostly little known guest rappers on his album? Because he likes his specific brand of music and is clearly only interested in mainstream success if it means not compromising his artistry. Expect an authentic show to compliment his incredible delivery at his SXSW 2015 performance.  Follow the jump for video.

New(ish) Track From Plateau Below

plateau-belowMy apologies to everyone involved for missing this sweet new song called “Riverside” by Bloomington based Plateau Below.  That little thing SXSW happened and everything just went to hell… Either way, the track is a hard one to define genre wise.  That’s usually a good sign right?  For starters, I love the power and angst felt in the vocals along with the subdued parts that build and build into some gripping moments in this song.  Hopefully you agree and will check out the band’s entire new album, Still Paradise, which can be streamed in full over on soundcloud.

New Tunes from Apache Dropout

I’m always going to give a shout out to Trouble in Mind Records; they’ve got a really diverse catalogue, but typically it all dwells in the garage rock category.  Today, this new jam dropped from Apache Dropout kicking out the rock n’ roll jams with a psychedelic twist; I tend to think more along the lines of psycho-billy, at least when I’m listening to this song.  It’s got whimsy, choppy guitars and the album artwork has a hint of ghoulishness. If you dig this track, you can get a hold of the group’s new record, Bubblegum Lemonade, soon; it hits stores on August 7th.
