Ski Lodge Clearly Still Has It

lodgerI’m greatly surprised that the new Ski Lodge single is getting less attention than their last effort, despite leaving listeners with two really great songs.  We’ve already tossed out the A Side, “Trust,” but I think the B Side is even stronger.  It’s a quieted piano ballad, opening softly with croon of Andrew Marr, washed over by a nice electronic touch.  There’s true emotional power in the first chorus, before the song takes on a more emphatic ballad form.  Honestly, as big as a fan as I was of their first album, this might just be the best thing the band has done…if my two cents count for much.

Dreamy Pop from Beach Baby

beachbaby-SONG_ARTThis tune flew into my inbox yesterday and definitely added a dosage of chilling out that I greatly needed.  It’s the work of Beach Baby, a recently new arrival on the UK scene.  Their music lives somewhere in that spectrum between bedroom dream pop and indiepop goodness; there are soft vocals in a relaxed presentation.  That being said, I definitely see some room for the band to unleash a bit of live fury, should they choose to do so.  Look for their single to get more love as the band moves forward, with the single slated for a March release date.

Wake Up with the Popguns

popIt’s always nice to get a little energy boost of delightful happiness through the music you listen to, which is why you should sit back and start your day off with this little sampler from the new album from The Popguns.  Pop Fiction has been in the works for the last year or so, with the band releasing a few singles from their label, Matinee Recordings, but now we get to hear a little bit more from the band.  There’s melodies, hooks and that classic indiepop sound that makes guys and girls swoon. The album hits stores on December 2nd, but you can pick it up now if you’d like to get your hands on it early.  Seems like the best gift for your friends before the holidays.

Warm Pop from Violet Woods

violetFeeling dreamy? Let your mind float away this afternoon with the work of Violet Woods, who are set to release their eponymous album this November.  This is my favorite type of pop music; it trickles in, it’s well-crafted and there’s a warmth that makes it the perfect listening for the fall season. The pacing on the track is steady, allowing for the band to maximize their melodies, and allowing your brain to gently drift away to a happy place.  Feel like this is a perfect way to enjoy your Wednesday, so join me by listening to this UK act.

Another Great Track From Shoreline Is

avatars-000069886838-rdz3sr-t500x500Just about a month ago, I shared a great new song from Dortmund based indie group Shoreline Is.  Today I’ve got another stunning, quiet pop tune from the band called “Broad Day”.  I really dig the way the vocals here fit into the song in this rather quirky, yet delightful way.  All in all, it’s a great lil’ pop tune.

Still no word on an official release date for the band’s new album.  We’ll keep you posted.

Interesting New Track From Samuel Cooper

MH291_DMr. Samuel Cooper is a man who has become well known for his work in the indie-pop group Sunglasses.  New is hitting the streets today that the man is going solo for a spell and already has a full album of material ready for our ears.  Previewing that new material is this delightful new tune called “Treehouse”.  I love the bright and sunny feel you get from the song and can’t help but smile throughout.  Enjoy.

Pick up new album, Treehouse, on April 8th via Mush Records.

Rambling New Track From The Shilohs

140318-the-shilohs-songI love this new track from Vancouver based indie group The Shilohs.  It’s almost like this weird sort of indie pop tune with a southerny, sort of classic vibe to it.  Maybe we can chalk these guys up as another Canadian band who really wished they could move to the south?  Maybe these guys really love the great white north, but I’d welcome them down here to play us more of these sweet jams.

Pick up the band’s new self-titled album on May 13th via Light Organ Records.

Dance Party with Strange Names

Strange_Names_promo3Coming to an ATH dance party near you is this great track called “Ricochet” from Minneapolis based Strange Names.  When you hit play, I’m sure you’ll hear some hints of fellow indie dance hit makers like Twin Shadow or even Junior Senior.  It may not be for everyone, but it would be one hell of a way to start a Friday or Saturday night for sure.

A full album of material entitled Common Attraction is coming sometime later this Spring.

Quick Indie Pop Tune from Amida

amidaYou gotta keep your ears to the Internet if you’re going to stay on top of all the great music coming out nowadays, but things are easy when you’ve got reliable labels like Dufflecoat Records putting out hits.  The latest release from the label is going to be the new 7″ EP from Amida, a Manchester act playing around with the poppier side of the city.  The first tune from the record is a catchy bouncer that spans just beyond the 1 minute mark, but that doesn’t mean you’re not going to feel the inherent joy from the song.  If you’re into it, support the great label by ordering the 7″ as soon as you have a spare penny or pound.

Indie Pop Winner from Bubblegum Lemonade

matinee087It’s been sort of a sad few months for indie pop fans, with a few of the smaller labels calling it quits.  But, on the bright side of things, the next few weeks promise a few announcements from the always excellent Matinee Recordings. The first release on their list is the brand new Have You Seen Faith 7″ from Bubblegum Lemonade.  Laz has fleshed out his line-up, creating three beautiful songs that illustrate the purity of indie pop.  His voice, as always, has this beautiful warmth, and the guitar work rings perfectly in the background.  You can order the new 7″ now from the Matinee Store.
