Did Someone Say Peaness?

peanessThere are some really reliable record labels that probably don’t get the adoration or attention they deserve, but with labels like Kingfisher Bluez, I always go back to see what they’re working on. The label recently put up some great tunes on their bandcamp…one of which comes from Peaness. The label is releasing a 7″, and the tunes they’ve got up are catchy as anything you’ll likely hear today…it sort of reminds me of Standard Fare, using sharp guitar cuts and a great female frontiedvocal. You’ll be able to grab your own before the 7″ is released at the end of July.

Fresh Indiepop from The Holiday Crowd

holidaycrowdIt’s probably best that I start off our Friday tunes with this recent number from The Holiday Crowd, although I think a lot of us can probably put it on our nightly playlist. I mean, that guitar sound makes it hard for me not to pull a “it sounds a lot like Orange Juice” card, but come on, there couldn’t be anything better…in my opinion. It’s got a little stomp, a little shuffle, ultimately making you feel good to be alive. So happy Friday and look for the band’s next release on Shelflife sometime in the nearest future.

Brand New Tunes from The Crystal Furs

crystalfursNot too long ago we were introduced to the indiepoppers, The Crystal Furs, hailing from a few miles North of us in Ft. Worth. Well, they just upped two brand new tracks that I think you’re going to love…at least I do. I love “Miss Hughes” in particular, blending aspects of Camera Obscura whilst putting on a janglier touch with the guitars. It’s a wonderful way for you to start off you Monday morning. Can’t wait to see these guys finally come to Austin. Happy Monday folks.

Fika Recordings Welcome Palomica

honeydewFika Recordings already has a decent stable of great acts (Stanley Brinks, Sally Shapiro), but adding Palomica to the fold just upped the ante a bit. Bouncing pop music never sounded so good in the morning, and the youthful spirit of the song has left a grin on my face for the twenty minutes. This song features a conversation between a male and a female, trading their perspectives, filled with fruit imagery. This single will be featured on the group’s second album, Petito, which should be out via the label later on in the year.

More New Music from Tres Oui

tresRemember that time when we helped put out the first Literature LP? That was awesome. So, we’ve kept close relations with the band, especially with their Austin based side-project Tres Oui (featuring Nate and Seth). They just recently uploaded a gem of an indiepop tune via the Office Series for Unblinking Ear Records. It’s washed in a nice coat of synths, washing over their cutting guitar chords. It seems like the perfect tune for performance, which if you’ve caught the band live, is exhilarating as Nate always takes complete ownership of the stage. Keep and eye out folks.

Bubblegum Lemonade Brighten the Pop Scene

bubblegumBubblegum Lemonade are no stranger to these pages, those its been a while since we’ve heard from the group. There’s something that the group have perfected, be it the casual ring of the guitars or the balanced approach between every note; it’s sincere pop music that’s absolutely inescapable. Press play and you’ll hear a song that transfers you back to the days of the purity of pop music…no little tactics, not little twists, just the best songwriting you’ll hear this week (in my opinion). They’ll be releasing their Beard on a Bike EP on July 1st via the highly esteemed Matinee Recordings.

Brand New Music from Math and Physics Club

mathI really love this band. I guess you can file them under indiepop, but I feel sometimes that that minimizes the band’s sound…you can simply label it great pop music…in my book. They’re working with Fika Recordings and Matinee to release a collection of rarities and b-sides, but also tossing out this brand new tune, as endearing and lovely as ever. A very limited vinyl edition will be released on June 24th, and this is your chance to fall in love with one of the greatest bands you might have overlooked. Enjoy this new one from Math and Physics Club, and be sure to grab In This Together.

Fresh Indiepop from Stephen’s Shore

I’ve been down and out with the weather the last few days, so it’s great to be back, and what better way to make my splash than to bring you this indiepop gem from Stephen’s Shore. Shimmering guitars turn in your ears, and there’s just a hint of haze coating the vocals as they swirl through the rest of the mix. You want a precise bit of great indiepop? You’re not going to find a better one this week…at least until I do. Look for this track on a new 7″ coming out this summer from Cloudberry Records.

New to Me: The Crystal Furs

crystalfursWhile all my Internet friends were raving about the amazing time they had at NYC Popfest (still jealous) they also tossed me a nod towards The Crystal Furs…a Ft. Worth based indiepop act. They’re fairly new to the scene, and seeing as our love of indiepop is always going strong, I’m really stoked to have another band to fawn over, let alone one from Texas. They recently tossed out an EP titled the Pentacon Sessions, recorded while the band was still working on their sound and name. I figured music world is slow today, so why not share it with you all today. Stream below, and look for more from The Crystal Furs.

Brand New Indiepop from The Salient Braves

salientIt’s been a few years since we’ve been able to bring you anything new from The Salient Braves, but I’m sitting here smiling, letting the band’s indiepop vibes wash over me this morning. They’re set to release their new EP, They Must Have Seen Me Coming next week, and they’ve tossed us a few tracks to help encourage your listening. The EP’s title track has that traditional indiepop sound, ringing guitars circling the song’s central melody. They take a more casual approach on the second track offered, settling into the groove of the song immediately while you wait for the warm of the melodies to sing up in the track’s mix. Look for the EP next Friday via Broken Down Records.
