New Swinging Single From Nick Waterhouse

unnamedThose in the mood for a little throwback, doo wop style pop music on this Wednesday should check out this new single entitled “It’s Time” from San Francisco based Nick Waterhouse. You’ll hear many genre elementshere like soul, jazz, and r&b all coming together nicely to create a powerful bit of retro pop music. I could see Nick headlining a stage at ACL here pretty soon if he keeps this up.

Waterhouse will release Never Twice on September 30th via Innovative Leisure.

More Music from Wall of Death

wallThe name Wall of Death is a lot more foreboding than this single, so lets get that out of the way. It opens really softly, using careful guitar lines filled in behind a nice electronic atmosphere. Then things blast off into a psychedelic explosion of cascading guitars cutting through the speakers before the vocals even come into play. I get the feeling this is what Pink Floyd would sound like if they were making relevant music in the modern era. Look for the band’s brand new album, Loveland, which is being released by Innovative Leisure next Friday, March 4th.

Check This Beautifully Dark Wall of Death Sound

wallofdeathYou’d think with Wall of Death as the band’s name that you’d get something dark and heavy. You do, except it comes in via the emotional pull of the track, rather than the music. When listening to the song itself, you find yourself in a strange place; it’s a place that revolves somewhere in the space between Air and a more ghostly Fresh and Onlys. I know, it sounds pretty ridiculous, in a good way, but you’ll have to take a listen to hear precisely what I heard on my first several run-throughs. This tune is the title track to their new album, Loveland, which hits on January 29th via Innovative Leisure.

Fuzzy Rocker from Tijuana Panthers

tijuanaIn case you weren’t aware already, I’m getting pretty excited by this upcoming Tijuana Panthers album.  On this new single, there’s definitely a little fuzz on the recording, but I love the swagger that comes with the song; it’s reminiscent of call-and-response moments from some of my favorite punk bands. It’s dangerous, yet there’s hooks, and isn’t that what we all want from our rock n’ roll? Their album, Poster, will be out on August 28th via Innovative Leisure.

New Electro Pop from Superhumanoids

superhumanYou know that B. Gray is going to be upset that I got to this new Superhumanoids track before he did.  There’s a huge vocal effect here, but it’s not such a huge issue that you can’t feel the humanity of the vocals themselves.  The track pulses and moves forward, and the music sings perfectly constructed around the lyrics, bubbling and popping forth into a groundswell of electro-pop bliss.  This is the A-Side to the group’s Flipping Out 7″, which is available from Innovative Leisure.

New Tune from Allah Las

allahOne of the things I love about listening to Allah-Las is that you get the real sense that you’re listening to music in California.  While their songs have hints of the modern psychedelia, they carry with them these sun-drenched guitar tones.  I guess that’s an easy comparison considering they’ve titled the new LP, Worship the Sun, but those hues of Cali make a great impression on listeners.  That being said, the new album has a lot of progression in it’s songwriting; the songs are tighter and there’s a greater variance from song to song.  You can grab the LP on September 16th from Innovative Leisure.

Bass Drum of Death Bring Us Another Hit

Bass Drum Of DeathBass Drum of Death has quickly become one of our favorite indie bands who know how to bring a little bit of rock n roll to their sound.  Today they are continuing that hot trend with this catchy new rocker called “Left For Dead”.  Once again we are treated to a poppy, garage rock themed tune that’s sure to be even better in the live setting.  Can’t get enough of this band.

Pick up the brand new BDOD LP entitled Rip This on October 7th via Innovative Leisure.

The Allah Las Return with New Tunes

allahI was in love with the first release from Allah-Las; it combined elements of California sun with psychedelic shades, all the while holding on to some solid hooks. It looks like the band is about to take a very similar approach, though this newest tune seems to move further into the past, musically.  There’s some swagger remaining, but this song displays more of a devotion to the delivery of the vocals, which serve as the song’s key focus.  You can grab this on the band’s upcoming 7″, and it’s also likely to appear on their Worship the Sun LP, which is slated for a fall release.

Fresh Music from Tijuana Panthers

Tijuana_Panthers_Press_Photo_2-1024x682The word out of California is that Tijuana Panthers have perfected their sound; they’ve moved on from garage-rock roots to a more polished sound, thanks to Richard Swift who handled production duties on their latest record, Wayne Interest. There’s this great warmth to this single, moving along with a pretty chilled out guitar vibe.  Vocals come in, almost drifting, which is yet another reason I dig what’s being presented. You’ll be able to get the whole vibe from the band next week when their album hits the stores, courtesy of Innovative Leisure.

New Single From Bass Drum of Death

Bass Drum Of DeathBass Drum of Death head out on a short tour soon (sorry not coming to Texas) and a celebration is in order with this new single “Black Don’t Glow”.  It’s about what you’d expect from the band, and that’s a good thing of course.  Garage rock sounds, washed out vocals, and wailing guitars are all here, and badass.  Hopefully we’ll be hearing about the workings of a new album sometime soon.
