SXSW is in full swing down here in Austin, and we’ve got another interview to drop with you today, hoping you might get out and see Mimicking Birds. We caught up with Nate from the band, and gave him our little set of questions.
Looks like we’ve got one final interview for you before you all venture into Austin. This round, we’ve got an insight into songwriter, Haux, dwelling in the land where electronica and folk unite in a pop format. We even threw in a nice little tune at the bottom for you to sample. Enjoy and be good to each other.
We’re almost there folks, but why not meet another artist coming into town. Below you’ll find answers to our SXSW Interviews from Yoke Lore. He’s about to venture off on a large tour through April/May, but he’s planning on coming to Austin to grab some BBQ and take it all in. We’ve also included a new hit that just dropped yesterday, so you can have a taste of what he’s all about; think Rostam, with a touch more pop grandiosity.
One of the great things about SXSW is that folks come from all over the world. We’ve had interviews from South Korea and Germany, and now we’ve got Australian artist Hoodlem on the line with a quick interview before she crosses the great pond. She’s got a brand new Teenager EP coming later this Spring, and we’ve got the title track streaming down below.
Jacksonville-based project LANNDS may not be a household name just yet, but someone has to be a “break out” artists at SXSW, right? We caught up with the duo before they headed our way; they’ll likely be playing several tunes off their forthcoming EP, and you can sample one of those singles below. They take the stage at Sidewinder on March 15th.
Cali artist Evalyn released her SandcastleEP, a blend of pop, R&B and soul. She’s headed to Austin for SXSW and we got in touch to have her answer our questions. I’m a bit surprised at her pick of Gryffindor to win the World Cup, as Slytherin are definitely the team to beat out there. Check out her hit “Filthy Rich” beneath the interview. She plays at Thursday, March 16th at Palm Door (10:10).
Just a few weeks back RayRay caught up with Bad Moves for a SXSW Interview, and now the band are back with a bashing new pop number. They dropped this tune today, and you’ll only need a few seconds to catch onto the band’s infectiousness. But, more importantly, like similar spirits The Spook School, they’ve crafted social criticism beneath the guise of incredible pop music; it’s some of the most important music being written today. This particular tune tackles the commodification of art by the disenfranchised and spitting it out into the masses. They’ll also be touring with Jeff Rosenstock for a few weeks in late April, so hopefully we all get a chance to catch their greatness live!
Brian Merrill just released a joyous little EP last month titled Bliss Bunnies. It’s crafted around short little bedroom pop gems, carefully recorded for maximum emotional appeal. He’s headed to SXSW next week, so we wanted to get his name out there in front of you with our little interview questions. You can also stream that EP at the bottom!
More SXSW interviews, all the time, all day, every day. As you can see, we are not messing around with the interviews this year leading up to the festival. I think Nathan and I have rather enjoyed seeing what all these bands have to say about our town and our festival. What I dig most about it is seeing the overwhelming amount of positivity each band brings even if they are on a long tour or a few days between a solid meal. Today I carry on the interviews with one from L.A. based Gothic Tropic. Hit the jump to see it all.
Blonde Maze is the project of New Yorker Amanda Steckler; she’s probably sitting at home right now crafting delighting electronic pop gems. She’s getting tons of traffic as of late, and we’ll hope you’ll take a little time out of your day to learn a touch more about her. She’ll be playing her set at Iron Bear Bar on March 14th at 10 PM. You can also stream a tune down below to catch the feels.
