Bouncing Power Pop from The Number Ones

1s-coverDammit if I didn’t find one of my favorite tracks of the month just before we blast off into June.  You might ask why something so simple meets my requirements; it’s precisely that.  This new single operates between the realm of pop and punk rock, and it’s executed perfectly. There’s some catchy “you-ooh-oohs” thrown in, just in case you need to sing along at the top of your lungs.  It puts this Irish group at the top of my list for acts I’m most excited about in 2014; you can grab The Number Ones self-titled record on August 5th from Deranged Records.

SXSW 2014 Interview: September Girls

septembergirlsThe great thing about SXSW is that you get a lot of bands coming in from abroad to test the waters of the American music scene, so we figured we ought to offer up one of those acts to you: September Girls.  The band is working with Fortuna Pop for their album, Cursing the Sea, which is a solid release.  We even changed up our set of questions a bit for the ladies to give you a different look at acts traveling to us from far away.  Read more for answers from the group’s Jessie Ward; help us welcome them when they make it our way. New Rocker from Squarehead

Ah, the Irish are making their way!  When I first heard about this new song from Squarehead I immediately jumped out of my chair.  I’ve been jamming to these guys for a long time; I’ve also been jamming to So Cow for forever.  Why does this matter? The two have teamed up to make a ten song split LP titled Out of Season–it comes out on November 13th via Inflated Records.  The Squarehead track is definitely the heavier the two, as that’s just their style, but assure you that the record will have some more melodic moments from So Cow. Either way, all ten tracks are pretty much guaranteed to be kick ass, so get ready.

New Layered Pop From Autumn Owls

Autumn Owls are a band that a can’t quite put my finger on, but I still find them rather interesting despite my ability to put some sort of label on their sound.  You’ll obviously hear a lot of different layers to their sound when listening to the song below “Great Atlantic Drift”.  It’s a really dark tune and intricate tune that seems to offer something new to discover each time you listen to it.  See what I mean?

The Dublin based trio will be releasing their debut LP Between the Buildings, Between the Sea on October 23rd via Epitonic.

Noisy Little Rocker from No Monster Club

If you’re looking for a band that lives somewhere between Fresh and Onlys and Wavves, then let me introduce you to No Monster Club!  The group came to my attention as I was following one of my favorite smaller labels, CF Records.  They’ve recently helped this Irish trio put out a small small run of their newest LP, Dublin, and it’s a pretty solid introduction to the band.  Below you’ll find a rambunctious bit of garage pop filled with infectious hooks and a bit of disregard for hi-fi recordings.  Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t get this jam out of my head.
